Heads up everyone!!

Heybridge Basin Regatta, which has been running for over 150 years, and is in aid of the RNLI and Maldon & District Sea Cadets is scheduled to take place at 0900 hours on Saturday 22nd June 2013.

There are a number of races covering a wide range of craft from wooden classics to the latest GRP offerings. Inshore dinghy races and games for the kids. After the afloat events and the locking in of various contestants at about 1230 hours, the greasy pole will be set up across the lock basin for the pillow fights!

There will be entertainment in the marquee with a group, a candid photographs stall and rifle range will be operated by the Maldon & District Sea Cadet Unit, between the Jolly Sailor and Old Ship public houses. Tons of free parking available in the Daisy Meadow Car Park.

The Sea Cadets are assisting in the running of the afloat events and will perform a ceremonial raising of the flag at the start and sunset at the end of the daytime events. The evening prize giving and after will be fun........

On Sunday they are running the first of what they hope to be a regular event of a boat jumble in the marquee along with their normal affair of cakes and books.

Programmes are available from the local chandleries and river side pubs.

Spent a wonderful evening yesterday, in the Maylandsea area, getting reacquainted with a sea cadet Cheverton boat. Getting ready for the event so as not to scare too many people when ferrying them to their boats for the start of the regatta.

If the weather stays like this it will be great.

I am told they will have photographs from last year available to purchase, profits to the sea cadets. Every little bit helps.
