Hey Dan, what about a \"Show Off Forum\"

For the tooth suckers, inevitably some one asks a practical question, some one comes in witha practical, back of fag packet answer which works (see calorifier post) AND then we get the tooth suckers. Inevitably, just like lawyers, nit picking argumentative, trying to show how clever they are. Can we have a forum just for them? where they can go and tooth suck to their hearts content, where they can score obscure points off each other and leave us more practical chaps and chappesses to get on with our lives??

Reminds me of an evening in a pub - Spinnaker opposite Moody's Yard at Swanwick.

Standing waiting to get drinks for myself / wife - couple of guys at the bar were talking about crossing channel and how to counter currents / tides etc.

Being a bit naive then - aren't we all ! I overheard them and offered an answer ... beer mat, pen, triangle and bits on back drawn and handed over ... there you go - nothing really hard about it.

That was last time I ever offered - I was told I was an idiot, that it couldn't be that simple .... etc. etc.

I went back to seat with the drinks and felt really annoyed.

They are everywhere - maybe even I fall into that category sometimes, last person to know is the person !!

exactly what I was on about, going across irish sea, waypoint over there, hand held GPS, press go to every hour and steer to the go to, and go below and put a few marks on the chart off the main GPS. Easy Peasy, but Ill bet the purists will start sucking their teeth as soon as they read this!!

Yup, give them a forum. When I saw the calorifier thread, I was reminded of someone just out of school who still had his jotter with all the tables on the back.
Maybe it could be called T(theoretical)BO Thinker to thinker...

Bloody Hell!
you can't seriously be telling us that you used a beer mat, pen, triangle and bits on back drawn. I mean everyone knows that a beer mat is wet and that pens just create furrows in wet beer mats. Plus, of course as every schoolboy knows, it should be a fag packet. You can still use fag packets in pubs, it's just the fags that are illegal.
And where did you get the triangle. I bet it was from a school band, and that is not a regulated triangle. It could be off-key to start with and may have the wrong coloured string.
I think you were very foolhardy to lead technically astute people astray like that. It could lead to a life/death situation.

Anyway who needs drawing instruments ? Can't you draw a triangle or line without recourse to schoolboy set ?
