Here can be seen Depth and Speed working ...

Now I am tied up and Depth is showing anywhere from 180 - 199m but real depth is about 3.5m

I've tried everything but cannot find why ...

Any ideas ??

(Wind and Tack - do not work - the speed cup is stuck and not rotating at masthead) ....

Still not sorted depth ... today only reading ------ no numbers ... tried all settings ... definitely connected to transducer - as soon as I choose different source - it shows OFF ... manual says that is way it tells you no connection.

But I managed to get Wind Direction and Tack displays showing wind direction - but cups not turning means no speed yet.

WD40 is one of the worst things you can use .... its great to free up an item - but then it needs to be 'flushed' out ... as it leaves behind a residue. It can also cause some plastics to 'swell'.

In the old days of the original Mini and 1100 cars ... the distributor was just behind the grill .... so many people used to spray WD40 at them to stop the water problems .... eventually the distributors would be so messed up with WD40 - they needed serious cleaning out. I club raced my car many years ago and to have access to Service Gear - car lift etc. - I used to sort electrics out on customers cars in return for a local garage. Mechanics hate car electrics !! I can say that about 40% of the cars with dodgy ignition I fixed were victims of WD40 ...
I would pull apart the distributor and find it sticky .....

My plan is to get a chair lift (my masthead is 17m from W/L) ... alongside a high wall ... and free up the 'cups spinner' probably with WD40 - then a generous dose of contact cleaner to flush it out.

I am also considering lifting the boat for a day - to pull all transducers and see what is really under / through hull with respect to transducers. Give mne chance to check out rest of hull as well ...

Have you checked out your magic box, anything to do with it?

Load of people have looked .... scratched chins ... no-one has answer for it.

I sent email to the Marina guys who looked after the boat for previous owner .. Toro Varv - Nynashamn ..... they haven't replied.

I finally decided to pull the Airmar ... its the P79 ... not the most reputable transducer .... sits in a Glycol bath (Anti-freeze). I added water to make sure full ... still reading daft ....

What is interesting is that the 'blue box' is connected to switches on the panel that have Green and Red stickers ... which if looking at what I believe are speed transducers - their cables have red and green markers. It may be that you can decide which transducer to use based on boats heel ?

I have found an old Garmin MFD under one bunk ... I meant to bring home and google about it ... its fitted into a half washboard panel to fit companionway ... I wonder if it may have some history with the blue box ... but there are no sockets for it to connect to .... mmmmm

Your Port and St'bd gizmos. They don't look like speed transducers, They have what appears to be breather, or vent tubes. The U shaped ones. The Port one has what appears to be another cable or pipe attached to the righthand side, this is not evident on the St'bd. unit? I would expect a speed (LOG) transducer to have one cable whether it be paddle or EM. There are also cables? coming from the two units in the saltwater system? You don't say but are you also sure about what "Old sounder is" Could that be a "LOG" .
Sorry I can't help would be nice to be on sight and do a bit of wire tracing!

There's only one cabler each attached to those three 'ducers' ..... the pipes are water pipes that just run very close ....

DoY0MHQ.jpg

The U shaped 'bits' are handles ... yep - never seen that before ...

The central fwd one of the three has no handle, but someone has put a large ring - so I assume that to be an 'in-hull' sounder not needing a strong 'quick-pull' handle.

KwsN1bk.jpg

Intention is to carry on with 'detective work' ... hopefully get the Wind Speed working - then lift the boat to pull all 'ducers' and get to real answers.

I am especially intrigued by the two small black hooded items you can see under the metal strips either side of the Seawater T junction

Alex ... you in FS&MBC ??

Recently a friend passed away who had a Vega in FS&MBC ... Steve.

My Father maintained Family membership many years ago there ... we had tidal mooring down the creek ... there was only ex army pontoon at the Clubhouse for short term watering / storing up before sailing off.

Finally got her away and had a two day jaunt ... lack of wind mostly + rain ... but had short periods of actually getting her sailing ... and she proves she is quick ....

Depth display - once we cleared berth and on way out from yacht harbour sprang into life !! Only thing we can think of - must be really soft mud bottom and sounder isnt getting decent return.
When we returned - sounder was fine and then as we turned to come onto her pontoon - display was back to silly numbers ...
