My dear old Perkins 4-99 has a Glow plug cold start insert in the air-intake that has a diesel feed to it. When energised the valve allows a small drip of diesel onto the glow element and it 'catches fire' - this flame gest sucked into the engine and away it goes ! Sounds 'orrible ... but true and works a treat ..... till the valve got blocked !
The previous owner never fitted the diesel reservoir to use it and disconnected the wiring. So I temporarily fitted a piece of 3/8 plastic pipe to the inlet stem and filled it with diesel. Connected the wires to a switch and presto it worked.... until I left the switch ON and the plug got too hot, melted the pipe and a bit of of plastic got stuck in the valve. Now it glows but no fuel goes through !!!!!
Has anyone any idea how I can remove the blockage ? I've tried to remove with a pin etc. but no luck. The plug cannot be dismantled etc. etc. only removed intact from the intake.
has anyone a glow plug of this type spare / lieing around their garage / workshop that I could have ??
Finally can anyone give me a diesel engine wiring diagram based on an average set-up ...... twin battery, alternator charged via 1-B-2-Off switch .... as the prat who wired mine up has the Alternator light permanently aglow !!!!
