anyone got any experience of these. I have a webasto HL 32D.01 heater.. Think its off a lorry. Its been brilliant til the other day. I accidentally switched the trip switch to it and immediately turned it back on. Now its not firing up.....takes two tries at this then locks out.. When its trying to fire up it produces a small amount of heat and blackish smoke from the exhaust. Can anyone tell me what might be at fault,

Thank you all.

I am replying on my friends name, mine is mpopeye. The heater went out of production 15 years ago and will probably a lot older than that. The sequence of events in the heater start cycle is as follows:
Fan at low speed with glow plug on (20 seconds) then you will hear the fuel pump start to pulse, after 10 seconds the flame sensor is then activated, if this sees a flame then the pump and fan increase in speed. If no flame is sensed then the pump will stop and the fan will increase its speed and it will go through a purge cycle and then repeat the start sequence.
Faults: if the heater detects a fault then the first thing it does is stop the fuel pump and then runs the fan for 90 to 180 seconds to cool the unit down. This is the same for a normal shut down sequence.
I cant remember the exact sequence on the HL 32 but certainly if the over heat (red button) has popped up then the fuel pump will not operate.
Most likely in the case of your heater is that without the shut down cycle running the fan it will have baked the burner mat, available through webasto still (under £5 though gasket set £26), or damaged the burn chamber (ouch) but not usually the case.
I and other webasto engineers are listed on the Webasto web site which will give you your local dealer. My name is Malcolm, I am based in Gosport and can be contacted through the Webasto web site if you need more help.

hey thanks......
bad news is that i found a manual and armed with this i set about the dismantling.

It turns out the combustion air fan is melted!!!!!!??? guess that explains the funny smell.well at least its not the wiring loom,,,,(smelled like burning plastic you see)
How would this happen?
Any way,,, I need a fresh air fan (and small locating pin- but guess I could adapt something for this pin affair ) and a combustion air fan. Gues I'd better also try and get new burner matting and gaskets as necessary?

Can I still get all these parts on a 1987 unit?

regards

Your help is much appreciated.
