Hi everyone
Have just fitted a water temp guage to my volvo 2002 diesel. Fitted expensive(volvo supplied) but correct sender with alarm light and guage contacts. When engine runs at start up guage reads about 40degC and at normal running temp reads 100deg C. Engine is definitely not overheating and daytime start temp is about 15deg C. Why is guage showing about 40 deg C too hot - or have I done something wrong?

Thanks in antic.

could be several reasons, best to test by removing the sender and placing in a container of hot water with a domestic thermometer. Allow to cool and monitor the temperatures. This will prove out the basic setup. If the reading is still wrong then assuming the voltage is correct (12/24v?) then either the sender or the gauge is faulty or incompatible. I suspect incompatibility ie wrong sender for the gauge. Usual running temp of an engine is about 83-88 deg C
