Help with install of Victron Energy Battery Monitor BMV-712 Smart

Yes there is both a bow thruster and windlass
It's a split charge diode, the input is connected to the input terminal of the Argo. it's possibly there to charge a battery at the bow for the windlass or bow thruster ?

If it is and i was the OP, i'd replace it, and the Argo, with a 3 output Argofet, neater, tidier and less voltage drop.

If the windlass and thruster have a battery at the bow, you'll most likely find that the cable from the diode (the black, finned box, beneath the Argo) goes to it, to charge it. As a future project i'd look to replace the diode and the Argo with a 3 way Victron Argofet. It will be tidier and the Argofet has much less voltage drop than the older style diode splitters. It's a very simple job, remove both devices and the short cable that connects the input of the Argo to the input of the diode. Fit the Argofet, connect the cable that was connected to the Argo input to the Argofet input (this is the cable from the alternator. The remaining three cables go to the three outputs of the Argofet.
