IK so this is along shot. For reasons too involved to go into, can anyone with a harken mainsheet system tell me:

The car control and end stop fittings....do they have closed ends so that they can be pushed onto the track only so far.... or ... are they slideable further inboard than the track end?

The Harken site manuals are indicate yes and Harken seem to think not. I knoe they are secured to the track with a single bolt into the track but.......

Thanks.

Harken Track Fittings

The end fittings on my Harken track are closed, the same with the genoa tracks, had a quick look on Harken.com and all the track end fittings in both the small and medium ranges, even the ones without blocks appear to be closed ends. However if you need to place stops further inboard I am sure that there is a fitting that could be modified though I think it is marketed for genny track, all the travellers now seem to use the recirculating balls so would not be any use. It would be worth having another good look on the site for what you need, the illustrations are very clear and comprehensive.

Harken Track

Been thinking a bit more about this, I can't find a Harken open end stop so the only thing would probably be to grind out the casting to allow it to be moved inward. However I recall having a problem on a boat with a Lewmar track which in crash gybes used to be prone to damage the traveller, to reduce this we put a fig.8 knot on the control line to stop the car about 25mm short of the end stop, the stretch in the rope also took a lot of the shock out of it. The fairlead which the knot hits needs to be well secured, you could add a parrel ball in front of the knot. Would this work for you?

thanks for the replies...the need to mount the end stops in from the ends of the track stems from the need to then mount the track across the cockpit with the track ends in custom fittings.
