Well I am trying to find out what carbs are fitted to VOLVO PENTA AQ211's (petrol). I have rung volvo penta and they have been as much use as a chocolate teapot !!! and where I can buy 2 of them. Thanks Martin.

PS I have a few Volvo bits left over...
Volvo Penta Gauges and pumps - I have 2 old style Volvo Penta square power trim gauges (1 works the other shows 88 - new price £462 each + VAT AND VOLVO HAS DISCONTINUED THESE) and the two pumps (1 works - new price £653 each + VAT) for the rams.

So I am open to sensible offers.

I believe your find the correct carb for this engine should be a Rochester 2GE.

The Holley 4150 carb was only fitted on the larger capacity AQ271, AQ311, although the AQ231 had fitted the Rochester 4ME unit.

The last time the 2GE carb was stock by Volvo Penta, the part number was 3856784 and retailed around the £390.00 mark. However now, with the age of engine the complete unit is no longer stocked.

VP do still stock an overhaul kit for this 2GE carb unit, which will retail around the £100.00 mark.

Hopefully that helps.

Thank you both for you replies. I am a little wiser now. However I do not really want to but a repair kit as the last time a VP dealer did the job a complete bodge up !!! So I would rather buy two new carbs and at least elimate the problem or its fixed ! Even Holley carbs in the States can seem to recomend what to fit ! So any further ideas would be welcome.....Thanks Martin

You could try a specialist carburation service agent if the VP dealer couldn't get it right. A friend of mine had a similar V8 engine (mercruiser admittedly) which he had carb problems with. The auto guys did a great job on his. There is virtually no difference between the automotive carbs and the marine equivalents and bearing in mind that the auto carburettor guys are probably doing full rebuilds more often than the VP dealer does, they should be better at it. Probably cheaper too. Good engines the AQ211. I have one in my Sprint and I love it. It's so simple to work on and very little to go wrong.

Hope this helps
Cheers
