Help! Wanted, the formula for maximum boat speed

Will someone post back the formula for maximum water speed for a displacement motor cruiser please.

I know its well known but I cant find it anywhere. Thanks.

1.4 times the square root of the waterline length in feet should give you maximum displacement hull speed in knots.

However, the "1.4" is a form factor that depends on hull shape and so can vary from one vessel to another. I think its possible range is about 1.0 to 1.5

The graphs are in Nigel Calders new book. It is dependant on the displacement-length ratio and power available (ie you need to put enough in the water).
