Help planning 1 week trip around solent

Hi

We are based in Poole (cobbs quay) and want to spend a week travelling around the IOW / silent . We are a family of 4 with 2 children who love the beach, in fact a day at Studland taking the tender to shore seems to be the best holiday ever. Do looking for more the same.

However I feel we could achieve this at different places around the Solent so we are planning a week visiting different marinas beeches and restaurants further afield,

We are currently in an MDL marina on a Fairline Targa 38 so would like to take advantage of using other MDL where possible but not essential although we would need to refuel at MDL rates during the trip.

So any advice or help as where we should go or not would be appreciated to find what we want, we may have friends joining us at different points.

Couple of nights in Yarmouth, then to Cowes/East Cowes, hire a car and exolore a bit of the Island. Then Bembridge, then home. Any overnight anchorages squeezed in ad hoc. Just watch your dates, the festival, Round The Island Race and Cowes Week can affect where you want to berth. Fill up before you leave.

3 MDL marinas on the Hamble river to enjoy, then also further east, Hayling island . You could pop down the medina river at cowes, stay over night at the folly inn pontoon moorings !
Anchorage can be had at Newtown creek!
Lots and lots of choices . Enjoy !!
Oh yeah.... also bucklers hard on the Beaulieu River is pretty lovely !

Pick a day on Springs and go inside Keyhaven, pick up a bouy, any bouy, if the resident comes along you just move, HM will come along and charge £4. Entrance a bit daunting at first, but well worth it. You can dinghy ashore and head along to Hurst Castle, there is a tea shop with ice creams. Tide will be high inside all afternoon.

Colwell and Totland bays are good for kids to go ashore. Both have ice creams.

Bembridge excellent for kids, they'll lover it on the Duver. Ice creams.

Beaulieu, anchor in the first reach that runs parallel to the Solent, dinghy ashore and there's ice creams on the beach at Lepe. HW you could take the dinghy all the way to the village.

If you stop in Yarmouth, then Sandhard beach is worth a visit. Open top buses to Needles, walk down to Alum bay and get the chair lift back up.

Cowes - East Cowes, walk up to Osborne House, head for beach, Ice Creams! Walled garden worth looking at. House probably a bit meh for kids. Expensive to get in but free if you have English Heritage membership.

Newtown creek is brilliant as there is absolutely nothing there ��
On springs certain parts become quite shallow, so if anchoring drive round a bit to find a hole. I always bung the harbour master a donation if anchoring. Pick up a fixed bouy (east there are 3 white and one red, West a few more white visitors.
Tender to the West (only) beach for a barby. Tender to Shalfleet for the New inn

others mentioned Hamble for MDL marinas & Hayling island & I would go to the later & Sparks, nicer for holiday stuff, MDL so free & nice for a night.. book a table at Drift early they get busy, if weather good head to East head & anchor for a spot of swimming & beach stuff, then head into Sparks for the night..

Newtown Creek is a must - pick up a mooring buoy their for the night. Beautiful spot.

Anchor in the lieu of Hurst for a sheltered spot out of the W/SW winds.

When you're heading back to Poole, it might be a good idea to book a berth in Lymington so you're close to the western solent to catch the tide back.

Without wanting to repeat other posts, if I had a week to explore the Solent I would consider the following

- If weather is amazing, then Newtown Creek for an overnight on a buoy or at anchor. It is a truly wonderful place. Great for paddleboarding and other such things
- Lymington is great to explore with its town, and the Premier Marina is top end
- Yarmouth is another must do, great town, great feel, nice marina
- Beaulieu river to Bucklers Hard. My fav Solent spot. Pub on site and marina
- Your MDL's are on the Hamble, so you're limited if you want to explore as they're all in the same location (unless you want to go even further afield to Hayling Island)... However Port Hamble is the MDL in the village so that would be my choice, as you can go to the Village and eat / drink / explore
- There is so much more to do, but above are my personal fav's. You would have to be happy to go to non MDL marina's but its worth it!!!!!!

For the record, the Lymington marina isn't Premier Marinas. It is part of Yacht Havens.

If your children like beaches then priory bay is the place with golden sand . Also Bembridge is just around the corner to moor your boat or you can anchor at priory bay and dingy in to the beach.

I'd do a clockwise tour of the Solent.

Lymington town Quay - lots to do and good shops etc
Beaulieu Marina - Hire a bike or walk to the village and visit the motor museum
Hamble - Port Hamble marina...MDl...Walk into the village..lots places to eat.
Haslar marina - get the ferry to Gunwharf Quay and that will keep the kids happy.
Bembridge - Best beaches around here.
Cowes...East cowes and walk to Osborne house..or the folly if the IoW festival is on.
Newtown creek at anchour for a night..very nice and good swimming
Yarmouth - Very pretty and good eating.

That's about it i'd say.

Kids might like the Lido in Lymington too. Or exploring the creeks in the dinghy.

For a day out at anchor, zip round to Whitecliffe Bay. Tender to the beach where there are A couple of cafes. A really lovely spot on a nice day. Kids can swim & explore. Perfect.

+1 for bembridge with kids, they always loved the trips there, worth a couple of nights, rock pools and beaches plus the duvers for a kickabout

Thanks for all the ideas, I will now try and get the dates sorted and plan the trip and will update my plan on here.
