It will do exactly what a 20 amp charger will do only take longer to get there.
We charge the service battery (110 a/h) every other day, and we live aboard.I leave the charger on overnight on boost, and in the morning switch it down to trickle to allow the battery to charge to its maximum capacity that this charger/system allows.
The other battery, our cranking battery, is topped up monthly, and is used solely for starting the engine.
I used to use the charger for charging 2 85a/h batteries in parallel overnight, so I guess its entirely possible, but since upgrading to 2x110a/h batteries we now can get away with having that all important cranking for dedicated use.
I honestly think that a cheap charger will be perfect for your needs. You could top up your batteries alternately every time you visit your boat.
Thank you for the reply. Until I have the time to rewire the batteries so that I have one for engine, one for domestic. The charger will have to charge both in parallel. Would it be upto charging 220ah bank of batteries? Hopefully they will never be let to go flat, so really it's main task will be to keep them full.
It must be a good charger to cope with charging the service battery every other day. I assume that it is also quite flat at this time of year with the early dark nights etc.
I went down the boat this morning to bring some more stuff home for the winter. I can confirm that the old charger is well and truly dead. I disconnected it and can now see that it is a "zig" charger? It was mounted to the side of the engine compartment. Could the screwfix charger be wall mounted ?
Also is there a charger similar to the screwfix type that has a higher rating, e.g. a 16amp?
