Being such a nice kind hearted indivdual I bought two Bjorn Again (Abba fakes) tickets from a pal that could not make the concert. The concert is tonight in Claremont Gardens, Esher, YES 'Garden'. I looked at the web site to find out where it was and I read it is in the Bl...dy open air!! Now it is peeing down with rain in London, will still be tonight, they have no seats at this place, just a grass terrace for 5,000 people!! They state that IT WILL NOT be called off in the event of rain. AND £25 each for the pleasure!! Now either my pal is a brilliant novice weather forecaster or I am just plain unlucky.

I do like to be prepared for all my missions but I have never been to anything like this so what should I take and wear, any tips on how to stay dry (apart from a dry suite) OR do I just donate the tickets to a hardened formulite? There must be some trendy peole on here who ahve been to an open air concert before. Do I need the Porta Potti or will they have toilets for 5,000!!!

SWMBO IS NOT impressed, she is going straight from work in her stilleto's, suite and bossy attitude, what should I pack for her, I am going on a tram?

Sounds similar to the ones I've been to.

Bring large brolley, some warm clothing for her, flask and ideally one of the little folding seats that stick into the ground. They normally state if refreshments are available on the ticket. Oh, and trainers or comfy shoes. Expect to get a bit muddy.

Toilets are normally catered for you (bring a small bog roll for her).

Have fun. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

easy extra large umbrella and wellie boots should do the trick. or alternatively you could take your markee tent and charge an extra admission fee to be in the dry for the duration !!!!

I was thinking of the Marquee, as it only states no gazebos on their web site /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif. I took SWMBO out last year and that was a disaster as well, I guess I am just unlucky /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Although Louise is 10 years younger than me, she still remembers Abba, I thought it would be a nice romantic night, baby with babysitter, snuggle up, listen to nice music (memories of old girlfriends /forums/images/icons/wink.gif), glass or two of wine, and then gently discuss the 10 week SA trip when she is most vulnerable /forums/images/icons/wink.gif. BUT NO, I see disaster, soaking wet, cold, generator running out of fuel, fly catcher batteries going flat, Porta Potti blocked (after charging £1 per go to guests) flask of hot soup, stilletos in the mud, me having to carry her, and she is much taller! and getting my head kicked in when I mention a bit of time away to find 'find myself' in SA, not looking forward to it at all.

Saw them a couple of weeks ago - warm up act to Shania Twain and before in Horsham. Louise will enjoy it... but you're right about not mentioning the SA trip yet. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I think you are going about this ttotally the wrong way... clothing won't help, nor will umbrellas.

I strongly suggest you hitch up that trailer of yours and trundle the boat down there fortwith.

Park on the lawn as close as possible to the the stage.

Set up the spray hood and swittch on the genny. for essentials like tea coffee, fave tv shows in teh intermission.

If you get any lip from anyone, explain its part of the stage show and the girlies are going to climb up on board and sing Super trooper from the foredeck and that if your not there, there will be hell to pay.

I look forward to newspaper reports!

Brilliant night, beautiful venue with stage in front of a lake, and it stayed dry all night! I really felt a lttle underdressed, as there were so many 'dancing queens about' /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Thanks very much for all your kind advice, it put my mind at rest being ready for 'anything'. SWMBO enjoyed it, fireworks at the end were great, (I didn't mention SA though /forums/images/icons/wink.gif)

I do think that 'Fake Freda' is in love with me, she kept looking and singing to me /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif But there again perhaps it was just my imagination being one face in a crowd of 5k. (didn't need the toilet paper, but that was certainly a good 'comfort' tip)

Thanks again,

You didn't say how the evening went but I'd guess it was an unqualified success! At least it didn't rain (I live just round the corner from Claremont so I go most years but this was one of the better ones).
But was it good enough to carry the day regarding SA?
Cheers
