Help! Looking for Colvic Watson Jura 35 named 'Pride of Jura'

I think ive seen her at Sutton Wharf Rochford. She is on the hard and has been there for a few years now. Saw a couple of chaps working on her over the summer and she look nearly ready to relaunch. She looks splendid in green topsides and silver anti fouling ( primer?). I will be going back later this week so will be able to confirm but 99% sure its her.

Hi Squide

We have had one or two sightings of her but nothing concrete as yet and a couple of other guys from this site are also being a great help, so I appreciate you having a look as even if it is not 'Pride of Jura' it may be one of the other seven of which I am trying to find as at present I have found four of the seven.
Merry Christmas
Best Regards
Mike

Hello Ash
Thanks for the lead I have found Richard and sent him a pm, just hope he finds it!
Happy Christmas

Mike
PS: If you think going astern in a Albin Vega is a problem be happy and try a Colvic Watson which have a mind of there own! (but I cured my problem by 50% by adding more ballast aft!)

Having owned a Colvic Watson 35 and a Vega I can assure you the Vega wins hands-down on it's inability to go astern under power!!! CW's are big enouigh to fit a bow thruster etc. You already know my CW I believe....

Cheers

St Katherine's Dock - just been out for a walk and low and behold Star of Jura

Hi Claymore

Thanks for the post.
I wish you had got a few pictures of her as it will be very interesting to see what condition she is in after all this time.

Last pictures I had of her was in May 2007 in France.

If you see anybody aboard please ask them to get in touch with me at the Colvic Watson Owners Group or PM me.
Thanks
Mike

Sorry about that - I did spot that she looked in fine condition - teak decks looked lovely as did all the brightwork. I wondered whether she had featured in the Pageant.

I've now forgotten - is this the one that was partially rebuilt by David Moss?

Hello. I can confirm that Pride of Jura is in West Dock St Katharines. We are in the same dock and know the owner so please let me know if you need any information.

To my knowledge she has not moved for a while and smokes a bit but looks in good condition

Hi Oliver

Yes it would be good to hear from the owner, I researched for 7 years before I wrote the History of the Colvic Watson Motor Sailer which due to reponse has now a part II & part III added.

The Pride of Jura was the first one built of the famous 'Jura Class' of Colvic Watson up in Rosneath Scotland of which only six were built and only five survive (on blew up).

I have tracked down all the others but never found out what happened to the 'Pride of Jura' and would love some more pictures of her and any additional history.

I will send you a PM of my e-mail address and thank you for your help.

Mike

Sincere apologies for my stupidity in reporting that I had seen Star.
Amazing how a Pride can turn into a Star in the short walk from the Dock to the Royal Mint where I put up the post.

Anyway - I am fairly sure that Star of Jura belonged to the Father of the chap who managed Rhu Marina in the early to mid 1980s.
We chartered a boat which was a bit of a mess and upon complaining they swapped it for the Jura which was really great customer service and gave us a fantastic week.

The boat next appeared in Skippool Creek and was owned by a Car Dealer - Tony Worsley.
He had her for a while and sold her on. She surveyed badly as the deck beam ends were in a mess and David Moss Boatyard did some work to get her seaworthy.
I think she next appeared in an article in Sailing Today magazine which described her full refurbishment in a South Coast Boatyard.

Just come back from Glasson Dock. In the marina there is a motorsailer, which I think is a CW35, called the something of Jura. Can't remember if it was Pride or Star. If you want to check you could call the marina office on 01524 751491.

Mike does a great job for the Colvic Watson Owners Association. Fascinating reading his articles and helped us work out which model of CW we have.

Pride of Jura

Are you still looking for this vessel?
She is still currently moored at St Katharine Dock, nice boat.

Thanks
Sean

Hi Sean

Yes it would be interesting if someone could ask the current owner to contact me or take some pictures of her.

After researching for over 7 years and writing the History of the Colvic Watson Motor Sailer in 2009/2010 I have recieved a load of more information from all over the world, so much that I am currently re- writing the whole thing and updating it where necessary.

The Pride of Jura was the first of the famous six of the Jura 35 Class and I tracked them all down in two years but never found out in detail what happened to the 'Pride of Jura'.

Please ask them to contact me direct or through the Colvic Watson Owners Group.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cwowners/

Many thanks
Mike

She's still at St Katharine's Dock ...spotted her yesterday. Wondered why I her name rang a bell; must have read this thread at some point. Pretty sure I don't have any photos of her, but I'll check soon and PM you if I find any.

No photos I'm afraid, but I did capture a glimpse of her on HD video. Obviously the stills aren't great, but might be of some interest:

Hi Dave

Thanks mate a great shot, wish it had been a jpeg file so I could copy it.
Earlier this year I have now been intouch with her owner through our Group, as she was one, if not 'the most', expensive Colvic Watsons ever built in her day.

Regards
Mike

Mike - do those Jura's have aft cabins? There doesn't seem to be a raised aft cabin roof.

Hi Simon

None of the only six built CW Jura Class were designed with aft cabins, as they have an extended wheelhouse which makes them very spacious inside and they are much easier to sail than a CW 34'-6" AC, due to the differant rigging set up
