The response to my Part 1 of the 'History of the Colvic Watson Motorsailer' was a bit overwhelming to say the least and I have been researching for a part 2 for the past 6 months.
Has anyone seen a Colvic Watson Jura 35 class Motorsailer named 'Pride of Jura' in their marina?
Please ask the owner to get intouch with me.
I would also like to hear from anyone else who has a Jura 35 but there was only seven built by D M Russell of Rosneath of which I have found 5 to date.
Also anyone with a Veracity 35 motor sailer which there was even less built, but by Aberdour Marine.

have you found the 'spirit of Jura', sailed out to the Med on her 10 years ago, would love to hear what she's up to now.

I last saw the 'Pride of Jura' about 8 years ago up the Beaulieu river.

Hello David
Many thanks, this could be the boat by the tonnage shown of 13 tons, but web search just shows an old family of 'Clunies Ross' and a possible professor Anthony Clunies Ros at Strathclyde university.
Do you know another Clunies Ros?
Mike

Clunies Ros - rings a bell. King of the Keeling Cocos Islands?

Hello Nornabiron
Thanks for that, every bit of information gives me a clue as to where she may be as I have been looking for her for 4 months, somebody must know where she is.

Yes I found the 'Spirit of Jura' but not sure where she is now as she was sold in 2000 & I have found the 'Star of Jura' which is in France and at least if you saw the 'Pride of Jura' then at least up to 8 years ago I know she has her original name, but still would like to speak to her owners as I know some of her history but not all.
Regards
Mike

Spirit Of Jura was sold again in Turkey in 2004ish, not sure where she is now, think she was bought by a German chap. I got my dates wrong, sailed to the Med on her with the owner that bought her in 2000, Stevie Gannon.

Hello Steve
Many thanks for your post, you may have solved another problem as we have a picture of a CW Jura 35 which we know was sold to Marmaris in Turkey 'but did not' know her name.
This is a picture of her which we have been looks to be have been taken of her on Loch Gare, is this 'Spirit of Jura' ?You should Know!
From the other post I will try continue to find 'Pride of Jura' as we are 95% sure she was the one built for G L Watson & Co as a demonstrator when they where in Eskine Glasgow.
Best regards
Mike

Hello Seamaster
Many thanks for this lead which we will try and follow up, I wonder if we have any boat owners on this site near or in Glasson docks or marina as I do not know that area.
Best regards
Mike

Dunno about 'Jura' but I took a quick tour of a Colvic 35 as per the pic above at lunchtime today.

Things should be christened 'tardis' I reckon. Absolutely *huge* below decks!

Whoops you may have found another one!, why do you refer to the boat as a 35?

For your information only the Jura, Veracity and Mariner were refered to as a 35 and I am tracking down them all.
There was only seven Jura 35 built, Possibly less Veracity 35 and not sure how many Mariner 35 yet, but again not many.
I have positive identification on 4 of the Jura boats and 2 on the Veracity and 1 on the Mariner.
Can you get any information or a picture of the boat you were on please.
Thanks for your help
Mike

It is moored next to a mates Moody 33 centre cockpit in Brighton Marina. ( finger H4 I think ) Has been there about 4 months. The current owner is doing a big refit. He emerged from below covered in celotex shavings this afternoon and after chatting he gave me the 5p tour :) He is aiming at doing a round Britain cruise at some time in the future and then 'off somewhere else' :)

Can get more details if you wish.

I called it a Colvic 35 because my mate said it was 35' long and the owner mentioned it was a Colvic . I recognise the photo as a sister!

Boats name is Bon Accord and came from east coast area. Colin is the owners name

Yep I know this boat it is not one of the Jura class but it belongs to Chris Jackson who also knows me.
Bon Accord is one of the rare Veracity 35 class of which very few were built.
Thanks anyhow but the hunt goes on for the 'Pride of Jura' which I hope is still in Glasson dock as above post,
Anyone got a boat at Glasson marina on this site????.
Many thanks for your help
Mike

Hello Ash

Happy Christmas

Mike
PS: If you think going astern in a Albin Vega is a problem be happy and try a Colvic Watson which have a mind of there own! (but I cured my problem by 50% by adding more ballast aft!)

yep, that's the Spirit of Jura. I sailed from the UK to Palma, Majorca, on her with Stevie Gannon, the owner. Sadly Steve passed away whilst on a trip home and the boat was sold from Marmaris Marina, Turkey in about 2004. I did some work on her before the sale and have pictures if you want them. Andy

'Pride of Jura'

I think ive seen her at Sutton Wharf Rochford. She is on the hard and has been there for a few years now. Saw a couple of chaps working on her over the summer and she look nearly ready to relaunch. She looks splendid in green topsides and silver anti fouling ( primer?). I will be going back later this week so will be able to confirm but 99% sure its her.

Seasons Greetings.
