My boat is on a river mooring in Lymington, where normally growth is just a covering of slime. This year though is quite different - where performance was very poor at the weekend, so put her alongside on a marina and did some had scraping. What came off was a bit of a shock - lots of hard growth that when I picked up a piece looked like multiple testicles which when squeezed spat out water. Any ideas what they are please?

The common names for marine life are often what they look like

If they look like testicles then there a good chance they are called "sea testicles", or because they squirt water when squeezed perhaps "sea squirts"

Sounds as though they are a type of sponge.

If they are similar to these on my non antifouled tender then they are sea squirts.
