Hi guys, having spent all summer cruising we need to find a home for our boat for the winter. The problem is that we may be out of the country or we may be living on the boat.

So................2 questions then..............

Firstly, can anyone recommend a marina for live-aboards where we can 'hole up' for the winter (not too expensive!!).

Alternatively, any ideas on storing on the hard for the winter?

The boat is 13 metres x 4 metres x 2 metres and 14 tonnes.

We are currently in West Wales but would be happy to be anywhere really. We also would need to keep in the UK until nest Spring.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

Chox

Come up to Stromness Marina, Orkney. probably the lowest marina prices in the UK as we are a "not for profit" organisation and offer low long term rates. There are a few sheltered berths left for the winter. Live aboard not a problem if you do not make yourself obvious to the harbour office (which is a different organisation to the marina).

Can not remember the six month rate but 12 months was £90 / metre.
Water and electricity (metered for long stays) on the pontoons.
If you want any further info send me a PM. I keep my boat afloat there all year.

The yacht haven in Falmouth certainly used to offer very competitive 6 month winter rates. It's operated by the Falmouth Harbour Commisioners (01326) 312285. Unfortuately their rates have gone up quite considerably in the last year or so, but they still might be worth a try.

Re: have you considered Bristol?

I dont normally venture here but followed your post in reader to reader forum.

Quite a few liveaboards in bristol.

Harbourmasters office tel 0117 903 1484

email harbour_office@bristol-city.gov.uk

City center location probably cheaper than commercial marinas.

Also worth considering is Milford Haven Marina ,close to town center with Tescos a 5 minute walk.

email info@milford-marina.co.uk

website www.milford-marina.co.uk

Run by local authority so probably a bit cheaper than some others.

Penzance worth a call, right in middle of town, nice place, few liveaboards and renovators in the locked port, reasonably cheap, secure. Very friendly souls. Phone harbourmaster.

second twisterkai's comments re Falmouth Visitors Yacht haven. Not Falmouth Marina which is part of Premier therefor commercial. Haven is run by Harbour Commissioners and is right in town . Good rail link- 10 mins walk to station on the level or 45 mins from Newquay for flights to Stansted or gatwick

You could do worse than here so long as you promise not to stay for the summer as well!

Yeah I'll second what Cliff says, a friendly bunch here at Troon, good facilities, great Bar/restraunt, good travel links both rail and cheap Ryanair links to 13 destinations only 5 mins away. marina will do a good winter package, give them a call

Paul.
