help cp180 plotter

just fitted my plotter first catridge wouldnt register so got replacment and still nothing happening contacted dealer and he said return the unit but what should i see when i insert the c map chart do i need to do anything to set up the chart

other than the flippant comment above .... no you don't need to do anything - the CP180 should recognise the chart and display it...
Have you got the right chart area for where you're based?

What does it display without the chart???

I think it should display the basic world chart??? Maybe someone with at hand can confirm.

Might be worth zooming out loads of times to see if a chart appears "off screen" as it were.

Some start up in some obscure location until a sat fix is obtained.

If necessary set a manual position to help it locate.

Works on my Lowrance.

Maybe this is a silly question, but you do have an aerial, don't you? The CP180i has an internal aerial, the CP180 needs (has?) an external one.

When I powered mine (CP180i) up, without a chart in it, it displayed a low resolution world chart. I popped the chart chip into it, and it displayed all the detail - really easy.

My only other advice would be to check and recheck all connections.

Do you see the fancy introduction screen and the boot messages etc telling you it is aquiring your position...

If the screen does not show anything then is it connected up properly to the supply and are you holding in the tit long enough.

It is a bit like a mobile phone with software start....Press the tit firmly and hold a second or two. Don t just titillate!

Also if active antena ( no idea if CP is or not) then that needs power as well as the plotter ... common mistake with Lowrance 2000 / 3000 Antena's. We all connect up thinking we don't need to read the manual !! Then nothing. We then get out the book and Bingo !

One model as built in GPS the other has exterior GPS antenna module which has to be plugged in using correct connector. This connects the power and nmea signal circuits.

ok - next test is to find someone else with a CP unit - a 180 or 300 or above is fine ...

insert your map into theirs and see if it gives you a map - if not then it is your chart card, if it does then it's your CP180

also test the other way by inserting their card into your unit - just in case it does display a chart in yours ....

If you don't know anyone with a suitable unit then see if you can find a chandlery with a unit on display and ask if you can test your cartridge ...

This might be stating the obvious, but having just purchased a CP300, when I inserted the map, I thought "is this working" as the screen looked the same as without the map. Only when I zoomed in did I start to see the detail of the chart.
