Hello everyone,

I did pop in and out about a year or so ago, but got a bit fed up with owning a boat on a trolley in the end...

This weekend however, the unthinkable has happened, and Meastro is afloat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We've spent a couple of days aboard tidying things and working out what we've got and what we need, then to huge disappointment discovered that one of the things we've got is a flat battery, so couldn't start the engine /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif (not brave enough by a long way to go anywhere without the engine). So we'll charge the battery and have another go next weekend, who knows, maybe even get off the mooring!

Hope to see some of you about, this season /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, and thanks to all whose advice helped us to get this far /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

Well done Chrissy, wondered where you had got to.

Fantastic that you are out on the water at least. perhaps next weekend you will see somewhere other than Pag.

I went down to my boat on Sunday after a 5 week absence and saw you afloat at Paglesham. I could have helped you if I had known as I have a booster pack I keep on board and would have happily lent you a battery. Although I don't remember seeing a dinghy hanging off Maestro on any of my 4 passes [twice in the dinghy and twice on a quick sail down the river], so you may have left by the time I arrived.

Next time you are at Paglesham enquire about the Roach Sailing Association, anyone there would see it as an honour to help you in any way as we are a great self-help society. We are generally easy to identify as we furtively go into and emerge from the Mushroom Shed [the reddish brown shed near the dinghy park] carrying oars and small outboards. You may be asked to join the club though and incur a massive £6 in membership fees and another £8 if you race and that is only for one year not for lifetime unfortunately.

Is maestro the dark blue Varne near the Crouch end of the moorings. If so I saw you on her today as I moved my boat from one mooring to another.

I have to admit to being a bit grumpy to the owners of a Leaisure 23 called Hastaway. I came back to my mooring last night to find Hastaway on it with the boat all locked up. I had to go on another persons mooring knowing he was coming back this Morning. I met the owners coming back from the Plough and Sail and I perhaps wasn't as pleasant as I should have been.

I have no problems with people going on my mooring but wandering off to the pub leaving the boat tied up to one is a bit off, I think. I was still grumbling to myself when I had to come back to the boat this morning to move her back to my mooring.

Hi Jim,

Yes, we took our time! We've moved house and I had exams so time and money were a bit limited, still we got there in the end. Now we'll have to learn to sail, after 18 months of boat ownership! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks for that. We went home at about 2ish, as my Dad wanted to get home to Berkshire so he could go off on his own boat today. I have every intention of joining the Roach Sailing Association, someone at the boatyard did mention it to us when we bought Maestro. Do you have a contact by any chance?

Maestro is white, she's on an orange buoy a bit upriver from the pontoon. I suspect we saw those who used your mooring coming back from the P&S as we were leaving, they were lugging water containers to their tender. No danger of us doing that, we need to get brave enough to get off our own mooring first!

Hi Gents

Spent two nights at Pag this weekend didnt realise the were so many forumites kicking anround.

Did pass moondancer as we arrived I also have a booster pack aboard and just as well as the car wouldnt start when we got back to fambridge.

Did have an excellent meal in the plough & sail Sunday lunchtime. Planning another visit later in the year to visit the punchbowl.

Hello, and thank you for remembering who I am, after my very long silence! I never actually did the Day Skipper... first I had too much on, with my uni exams. We then moved house, so I am just too broke now to afford the course! We have been reading lots and pumping my Dad for all info, and I think we'll have to be brave and learn to sail the old fashioned way /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
When you see us out, doing something stupid, please be kind /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Last winter, John from the RSA, allowed his yacht to be used for a series of practical ICC exams for the RSA folk. It was a equivalentish to day skipper and very practical in nature. You might want to speak to him if you join to see if anything similar is planned this winter. Another quick way to learn would be to come along on one of the RSA cruises. The next one is to Pyefleet I think.

That sounds good. I have sent an email to enquire about joining the RSA, so should have that sorted soon. I reckon I can just about afford the fees /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. We are keen to do just about anything to learn anything!
