Exactly the same at York, a good number between 40-45 ft with plenty just below that length.

Thankyou for this suggestion I did not know the arch could be converted to hinged as I know very little about anything.. how often is this conversion done and what sort of expense would I be looking at?
Also in answere to why have a sea going boat on the river… as I have said before when I have passed the relevant safety courses I fully intend to cross the channel to the French waterways.. it’s like with cars why buy a car capable of 155 mph when you can’t use that power on British roads but people do… I want my boat to be a home from home
 
Ask at Burton Waters Lincoln or Newark Marina about hinged arch cost - or look for a boat already done.
Not sure but I think it probably does not need to be powered .

If you buy a boat that is suitable for the Gt Ouse then you will significantly restrict your choice and probably won’t get the level of comfort that you want. Perhaps worth thinking about scrapping that idea given that your longer term aspirations are for the European waterways?

A more suitable option would be a Broom as they were originally designed for sea passages and for use on inland waterways in Europe. With an aft cabin they offer very comfortable accommodation and the deck layout makes them very easy to handle inland in locks etc. Older models are the Continental, Ocean and Crown - all 37 feet. Next came the Ocean 38, which morphed into the 38CL. They also built larger planing hulled boats - we had a 41 and it was like a spacious apartment in terms of accommodation and comfort. Old advert when it was sold on by the couple that bought it from us here gives an idea of the home comforts. Quality boats - this is a 1992 model.

Other options of a similar design would be Haines, Atlantic and Westwood.

Our first boat was a Princess 32 that we bought from LH Jones at St Ives on the Gt Ouse. We had a weekend cruise locally before taking her to the Broads and the river is fairly shallow in places so you wouldn’t want to draw much more than a metre.

I think a Broom might need more than a metre of water ?
Outdrives 0.9m or thereabouts - still a bit tight . I have my alarm set at 1.2m depth of water. Having said that I did think there are outdrive boats on the Ouse and yours was one example.

The fens part is straight and boring (largely man made) but should really be called the Cam but the proper bit from Earith to Bedford is very nice natural river but that is where the size matters, my old RLM needed 27" for the tips of the outdrives (enfield 130's) and dragged the bottom in a good few places (usually downstream end of locks) and much over 8' airdraft is a problem, at 8' 2" I got stuck at offord a few times and had to remove horns from the roof to get through and then only just.
The tidal run from Kings Lynn to Denver is also a juggle between not going aground and hitting bridges and the short cut along the hundred foot is a weedy silted ditch in summer with dead seals and debris these days, it's the reasons I escaped to the broads.
Best for both gt.ouse and sea would probably be something like a 30' nimbus, I wouldn't get my princess 30ds up there even without the radar arch.

Yes, there are outdrive boats on the Gt Ouse and touched bottom a few times in the short time that we were there.

A Broom might draw a bit much and would, in any case, be too big for the Gt Ouse. My suggestion was to re-think (scrap) the idea of getting a boat for that river given that the ultimate aim is to get to the EU waterways but I wasn’t clear on that so I have edited. ?

Sounds like a good plan.

Perhaps the OP , being Lincolnshire based might consider being based closer to the River Trent.

Looked at a nice 480 on Monday, in the UK . Might be too big for your needs. Esp as it's the two cabin version.
