hello and hope you can help!!

well.......might have cracked it!...theres a boat called a "matilda 20", which was updated in the mid 1990's by a "pippin 20"...both look similar to mine, but they both have a drop keel rather than a keel that swings up like mine...think i'm getting somewhere though!!

I think not. Matildas have smooth hulls. Yours is simulated clinker.

I wish people would return books they borrow. The information we need has not been returned...

In the meantime it is definitely not a Matilda, I had one and they are very different to yours. Much lower freeboard, and no imitation Clinker build. The only Pearson of that size I can find reference to was also smooth hulled.

The mainsail insignia guide you looked at is probably American, and omits many famous UK marques, including my Trident 24, and many other boats of the sort of vintage you are looking for, so very definitely not 'definitive' and probably misleading! Sorry...

went to local timber yard today, and they have found me a couple of bits of iroco that will do the job, and are gonna cut them to length, sand them, and put a groove in for me when I give them the measurements. The old ones appear to be screwed on from the inside, and the screws have been glassed over in the cabin...any suggestions on the best way to attach the new rails?...was thinking of making the rails wide enough to screw down from above, through the fibreglass, and into a thin strip of iroco on the inside. Does that sound ok? cheers!

I suspect the old rail has been bolted on, then the nuts glassed in to protect your head when getting in / out of the cabin.

If you can see the bumps over the screws or nuts inside, chip the glass off with a chisel or sharpen an old screw driver to cut it away and expose the nut or screw head.

Or break what's left of the old rail off and expose the bolts or screws.

Avagoodweekend......

I think I would consider making the new rails wider and bolting them on (rather than screwing into wooden strips inside.)
I think I would use countersunk screws, counter bore the holes for the heads and fit plugs to hide them.

Also bed the new runners on Sikaflex 291 (or other good adhesive sealant) to make all watertight and help to stick the rails in place too.

well as long as im not snowed in i shall be fitting new rails this saturday!...still cant find any pics or info on the "sprite" made by pearson bros of arundel...does anyone happen to have any info on it? cheers!!
