Hellllp !!! Thames Refuelling Points

It's only easy if you are not lugging jerry cans. I would say it is a good half mile from the marina.

I'd second that, back breaking unless you have trolley which i didn't.

I think the OP's concern was the tidal bit and basicaly there is no petrol from Medway Bridge until you are above Teddington, if it was me I would plan to carry enough fuel to do that trip, once on the non tidal Thames fuel consumption will drop and running out isn't really a big issue.

thought I'd bounce this thread in case anyone is planning a petrol-powered trip at the moment, I went to Penton Hook yesterday and they had run out of petrol!

...have orderd a couple of jerry cans from eBay, they'll pay for themselves after being filled but twice!

Fuel points on Thames list

I know this is an old thread, but I'm considering buying a boat, so which fuel type to go for, diesel or petrol? A good guide I have been given is the Environment Agency - The River Thames and Connecting Waterways 2012 - 2013. This supplies a list of fuel stations and what they supply as icons on the map. The list is as follows going up stream.

Shepperton Marina - Petrol and Diesel

Chertsey Meads Marine - Diesel

Penton Hook Marina (MD)L - Diesel (Petrol tanks are contaminated)

Kris Cruisers - Diesel

Windsor Racecourse Marina (Tingdene) - Diesel and petrol

Windsor Marina (MDL) - Diesel and Petrol

Bray Marina (MDL) - Diesel and Petrol

Bourne End Marina - Diesel and Petrol

Hobbs of Henley Ltd - Diesel and Petrol

Thames and Kenneth Marina (Tingdene) - Diesel and Petrol

Caversham Boats Services (Fry's Island) - Diesel

Swancraft Boat Services Ltd - Diesel

Abingdon Boat Centre Ltd - Diesel

Funafloat Ltd - Diesel

Oxford Cruisers Ltd - Diesel and Petrol

Please note this is only from the list, so cannot confirm what they actually sell.

EA guide

I should treat the information with caution. For example Thames & Kennet has not sold petrol for many years, if ever, as far as I am aware. Petrol is available from Tescos which is more or less opposite, but this involves a short walk with a Jerry can, assuming you can get a space on the Tesco pontoon.

Re Lechalde:

Not only is there no petrol on the river bank there is no petrol station at all! The nearest is a drive away in Highworth.

BUT, good news, a new COOP and petrol station is opening in Lechlade soon. It will still be a can job for boaters but will be much better than the current situation of nothing for miles.

No petrol at Bourne End marina and IIRC, hasn't been any since I last popped in during 2005.

Hobbs - really not that interested in selling you petrol as they've always got their "own" boats on the fuel pier.

Below Shepperton and first and last diesel on the Thames (depending on which way you are going) is Thames Ditton Marina. Petrol Station is approx a 200 yard walk from the Marina. Turn right out of the entrance.

Yep, Bourne End is definitely diesel only

This list is from the Thames and Connecting Waterways booklet. It seems as most of you are pointing out, that there are only 3 areas available to moor and fill with petrol. Shepperton, Windsor and Bray. Penton Hook has contaminated tanks. if anyone knows the costs of fuel at the ones (Diesel or Petrol) I have not listed, please do so if you know the cost.
