Helgoland

I've never hear of it being referred to as a soul. But long may your soul dangle.

Planning a stopover soon.

It's not a bad place. One point, though. Make sure you call up on VHF (Helgoland Port, Channel 67) before going in. It's an active German naval port, and they can get quite annoyed if you don't call.

This is the perils of having your tourist brochure produced by a German who speaks English rather than a native English speaker who also speaks German.

It also shows why computer translation will IMHO never be any good.

I have a tourist brochure for Flensburg and the Baltic coast, aimed at yachts persons, and inviting the visitor to enjoy "skintight leisuretime pleasures - discover and experience". Try as I might, I never found the original German text and so never knew what I was meant to be enjoying. Nor did I find a "skintight leisuretime pleasure"..........

Reading site further it seems to be something of a naturist's heaven.........

"On the dune situated immediately in front of the island you can bath, independently form ebb and flow of the tide, on spacious beaches in healthy and clean German Sea waters."

Personally, I prefer a shower and in a room with a door and a lock.

Does Legoland sound like this?

"From the West a description of the Island of Helgoland reaches me both in terms of the beautiful instances of inorganic an organic nature, the consolidated values of prehistoric life, and in terms of still fresh evidence for the survival and work of the eternal spirit of the age. "
