It's been a fine, quiet day, and I've just struggled to drape an 80 sq.m. new boat cover over my boat hulls in the garden. It weighed, well, almost more than I do - and I've tied the corners together underneath with some light line, for tonight.

And now, after dinner, after dark - and after a good half-a-bottle of Hardy's Cabernet Sauvignon - I find out that it is going to 'blow a hooli' later tonight. There is every prospect of my new boat cover getting airborne and frightening the horses in some far-off farmer's field.

This is, to my simple mind, an issue similar to "Do I get up, put on my oilies, and re-lay the anchor now - or shall I leave it, and see how it works out....."

For those who may have an interest, I searched high and low for a suitable tarp replacement, and eventually went with Attwoolls of Gloucester. They have a huge manufacturing facility - and many of the 'local' tarp agents in Yellow Pages, nationally, fax their customers' orders through to Attwools, who do a p.d.q. service.

It's also economic - another manufacturer not 12 miles away quoted over 3 times what I paid, for exactly the same.

However, I don't know as yet how long this 610gm/sq.m PVC coated fabric will last.

That rather depends on the winds tonight.......
