Good morning to you all. So, I am sat i the office, head full of cold having just finished the sore throat phase, and I was wondering if you suffer less with colds/flu etc while cruising? Just curious 
Healthier at sea?

YUP 5 years continuous cruising and no cold or flu.
Mind you I was in education and classrooms are fine incubators so my immune system had plenty of practice.

Very very dificult for bacteria/microbes to develop out at sea. 12 years free from bugs. Only have to watch out for the land lubbers (thats me now-sadly)

Good news! More ammo for me to use so I can convince SWMBO that it`s what we need to do....I wonder if I can induce a few hay fever attacks in her this summer??

In six and a half years we got two colds both in places where there are lots of tourists - Antigua and the BVIs. The rest of the time going places with few or no tourists nothing.

I had my first illness in thirteen years this year when a woman sneezed all over me in Lidl. :disgust:
A few hours later and I was ****ting through the eye of a needle and shaking like a leaf. :ambivalence:
Don't know wtf she had but it was awful.

Not only colds, the cruising life even cured my back.
Having a lot more physical work to do, ( rowing, walking, biking , loading water with the dingy...) made the back problems almost disappear.
Stress is another thing that vanished. From time to time some healthy stress ( As this week with an unexpected 45 knots wind ) is fine, the long term “ not happy with life “ stress is gone. Living my dream.

A few years ago one person who was under daily dialysis (not the one where they filter.clean the blood, the other variety where a liquid is injected in the ventral area and then taken out, sorry cannot be more precise) decided he wanted to cross the Atlantic singlehanded, a way of trying and show other people with the same condition what they could achieve.
He brought a number of doctors and various types of specialists (microbiologists, etc) in the boat while on short sails: they took a large number of samples of air, internal surfaces, etc. Once they analyzed them, they were surprised to find that basically the environment was very poor of microbs and other organisms.
He succeded to cross Canaries-Guadalupe without the least infection.
