With close to 3 figure attendance at last month's Cherbourg event we had considerable problems finding a venue where we could all meet and eat.

As so many people said "let's do it again next year' we've decided to seize the horn by the bulls and book a date so that we can reserve a venue now and not be left scratching around again to the benefit only of Cherbourg's taxi drivers.

Consequently, the Yacht club bar and restaurant, l'Equipage has been booked for the evening of Sept 17th. This booking is not 100% firm as the restaurant is still waiting its own yacht club's calendar of events for next year which must take priority. However, from the manager's tone of voice, I reckon it's safe. That weekend the tides are halfway between neaps and springs.

Nothing else has been arranged yet apart from the date and venue, nor will it be until next season so the nature of the event and the catering, etc is still up for grabs and discussion, but I don't reckon we need to start worrying about that for 9 months or so.

So, if you're interested in Chbg05, for now could you just block the date of that weekend in your diairies and not let your sons and daughters get married, have children or go off to Uni on those days!

Bottoms up. TK

May I be the first to withdraw from the 2005 Cherbourg trip?

Boat will be elsewhere but might hitch a lift if any one has a spare bunk.

BTW, you might want to know that this is the first w/e of SIBS 2005.

Nice one Ken

I need to get some French lessons sorted. At the moment my vocabulary only allows me to order beer and shower tokens.

I can however take the Pi$$ out of the skipper in 2 other languages at 5 in the morning after a night passage./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

No clash with birthdays, so should be OK this time! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Still feeling depressed at the weather this weekend. I've not sailed since end of August and the boat comes out of the water in a few days. I had planned to go away one last time this year. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Room for Duffer?

On the basis that a year in advance leaves a little scope for negotiation, may I declare an interest as unwanted crew? Let's face it , no way I will own a boat anywhere let alone UK-based.

For anyone interested my qualifiactions for this follow:

Sailing -- Urrgghh?
Language - Enough to hack off the French
Drinking - Guaranteed to need sleep on return trip

Ken

Thanks for the management of the last two jaunts-

I won't be along next year unless I can scrounge a lift, any tips??

Asterie will be either in Portugal, Gibraltar or Lanzarote in September.

Be warned I intend to p*ss everyone off with reports of hot sunshine and 20 knot winds on the beam.

Having found the virtual trip this year far too stressful by half, I'd love the opprtunity to try the real thing. The Memsahib is v. keen to come as well.
Anybody want an extra couple of bods to pull on bits of string, pass the skipper a drink etc....?

and here's me organising some exciting Virtual Cruise destinations for next year.. I was thinking of taking in the Turks and Caicos, Gallapagos and of course our delightfull Hebrides..

Just think you could virtually be accompanied by any Radio 4 presenter and simultaneously get sun burn, frostbite and shark bite!

And you opt for run o the mill Cherbourg with a terribly mottly crew in dodgy father christmas type hats.. I just dunno what the world is coming to any longer.. <looks dispairingly heaven wards rolling eyes manically>
