Heads pong.

Two simple rules. First use sanitary grade hose. Second flush the system through with fresh water as often as possible. The smell comes from 2 main sources, stagnant seawater in the pipework and residue of waste. Old style pipework is porous and the odour leaks through the walls. You can disguise it using chemicals - sprays, sanitisers etc but they don't deal with the underlying cause. On my last boat I always flushed the downstream from the toilet through the holding tank with freshwater every time I left the boat. Had it from new and after the 6 years when I sold it no smells.

The yacht I have has a sea smart sanitiser unit fitted. Expensive for refills £24. I would like to disconnect this and use something more cost effective. Does anyone have any ideas for this.
I refill mine with 50% diluted Tesco toilet cleaner which works out to about 20p a go.

The Seasmart pouches are ludicrously overpriced.
