I am in the middle of putting up headlining. i got my stuff from Hawke House who were quick and helpful, working out what glues to use and how much I would need. they sent a small booklet which I found helpful. It was a messy job as I had to grind off the old paint and attempt to flat the gel coat as I applied the headlining direct to the cabin roof. Now its nearly done it loks pretty good to me. Putting up the lining is possible with one person but two working at once makes a great difference in speed and accuracy!
I’ll second the ‘two-person’ option, if you are applying it direct to the ceiling!
For what it is worth, I have written up our experiences of fitting headlining to a Freeman motor-cruiser:-
wasn't pleased with the results of using stick-on foam backed vinyl, plus there is a problem of the foam breaking down after a few years. in the end we glued wooden pads to the deckhead and used unbacked vinyl 'set flying' with a plastic-capped screw at each pad and a strip of teak around the edges. not too difficult to do and can be taken down for wiring jobs etc. another method we have used is to glue the vinyl to 3mm ply and stick the panels up with velcro.
HAVE GRATEFULLY READ YOUR HARROWING EXPERIENCES ON HEADLININGS! ON OUR PRINCESS 33 THE LINING IS NOT ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO THE CEILING BUT IS STRETCHED OVER BATTENS SO I PRESUME WE WOULD NEES TO PURCHASE THOUSANDS OF STAPLES AND WORK EACH SECTION INDIVIDUALLY. WISH US LUCK!
