Talk about and under statement. I had to look twice! The sunset compares to a Walt Disney movie. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Another competition winner, me thinks.
Nice to see the pics, having heard about the trip. I'd never considered the Scillies until I saw Derek's pics from last year's sortie.
What a beautiful unspoiled location to visit. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Hmmm, when I get the time... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Thanks Duncan - yes, Scilly is a great place to go and we only just scratched the surface.
Hope Cove - didn't actually go ashore as we were pretty tired after the early start. Would love to go ashore another time, or to Burgh Island. Also wanted to explore the Fal more, get up the Helford river, stop at Mevagissy, Polperro and many other places that we just bypassed /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
So many places to go, and not the right weather or enough time. Perhaps next year or a permanent move west for a while...
To be honest there's nowt at Hope Cove worthy to go ashore for. IMHO it's a bit of a dump. Burgh Island is perhaps worth a visit if only for the reputation of the hotel as a film/tv set. Pilchard Inn is dark and scruffy - or was last year.
Jewel in the crown is to creep into the Avon and anchor for a few hours either off Bantham village or further upstream. Idyllic little spot with a good pub, though the entrance dries and is rather scary - have to hug the E.shore very closely and then turn sharply into a narrow channel through which the tide runs ferociously. Not to be attempted in moderate winds upwards or if there is any swell. Worth the effort otherwise though.
