Head turners

spirit yachts

I have to agree, Spirit Yachts are beautiful, so good I'd be too afraid to take one out......

I'm not so sure any more. Sure they look very nice from the outside - but did you look at the photos of the insides on their site? Can you imagine sleeping in those bunks at sea? They're obviously designed for posing rather than proper sailing, which rather puts me off.

I'm so so sure:-

I have seen very few uglier boats, frankly I think I'd rather go to sea in a conservatory:D

Ones things for sure reading through this thread beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

You're trumped, Squire!

What's wrong with that Ken I quite like that apart from the windows in the side & I dare say they could be improved with a bit of adjustment & beading around the edges.
Plenty of nice open deck space up forward.
Come to think of it I withdraw this post that stern does look a bit blunt as if it has been cut off & sold by the yard.:(

they see the boat and turn their heads the other way

she is fine for what I am doing but when I see a folkboat or even a caprice

I don't mind sailing it -because I don't have to look at it

I don't mind rowing out to it - because I don't have to look at it

but when I am rowing away from it - I have no choice

Aaaaagh!

dylan

but looking at your video's she's looking after you! ;)

Interesting how after the moaning about the size of boats people go for in
the starter boats thread the sizes here are consistently in the low to mid 30's.

Can I nominate the Halcyon 27, and also does the Pogo mini-transat count for this?

Well amongst the smaller boats we have the Swallow and the Dragon, and of course I have a soft spot for the wooden Wayfarer...

A response on the Bav./C32 thread has started me thinking about style. Some boats you encounter just look so good when sailing that you want to get the camera out. The Contessa 32 is definitely one and none of the Sadlers which followed are nearly as pretty. Others I can think of are the S and S Swan 38 and the X119 which just exuded power when under sail, I always liked D. Thomas designs but more for functional performance, the only pretty one I can recall is the Toledo, (a Hydro with extended transom)
So restricting it to production cruising/racing boats I would rank them
Contessa 32
Swan 38
X119
Significantly none of these are in quantity production today and all were expensive when they were made, and regarded as fast, the only one on the list I ever aspired to own was the X119 and this was only because as an unsuccessful one design they were such very good value second hand; at the time I went for a Sigma 38 which while not quite as good looking was a lot more practical.
Anyone want to nominate better looking sail boats which are still being made?

i disagree, the sadler 25 is a beautiful little yacht equal to the contessa in my opinion

That is a lovely pilot cutter photo!

Re the Anglia windows, I am just wondering, how about 'filling in' the spaces between the dark windows with some dark paint, such that you have a continuous dark stripe?

If you then painted the cove line and the boot top in the same colour I think she would look rather nice. Not that she isn't nice looking now, but the Anglia windows do detract somewhat from what she could be.

But there again, I also quite like the Moody 45 (although the Dufour Atoll 43 or 45 was prettier), Ken's trump card Oyster and Uber's Sunsail cat.......
