I downloaded the GoPro App over the weekend to my Ipad. I have the wireless back and it can be linked to the Ipad. I went and did a little test at the weekend and it is really a great bit of kit. With my Ipad in a waterproof cover and the camera mounted on the A Frame of a rib I can see what is going on and turn the camera on and off.

OK, I did get a bit mixed up with the on and off button at times, but I think I'll get the hang of that. I have ordered another back so I can link with 2 units.

Talk about gadget man!

Nice video!

I bought the hero 2 myself two weeks ago, but wasn't aware that the app is already out.

How does the vid streaming to ipad work quality wise?

As good as the HD video. I'm using on the Ipad 3. I had to upgrade the software on the camera and the wireless back.

That's interesting - I'm guessing the app has only just been released? There was a lot of initial dissatisfaction from users who bought the wifi bacpac, only to discover that the app didn't exist yet. I'll have to give it a try.

Cheers

Jimmy, it is available to download from the GoPro web site.

Thanks for that ... looks much better! Presumably they sell the gadget/adapter/screw on/whatever? as an extra, or can you buy them with the 127 lens? Can't see the need for a near fish-eye as they distort everything so far they look silly! I like the Hero HD and might now buy one now I see that there's an alternative lens ... currently using a Sony Handycam (non HD) and a Kodak Playsport.

Even better, You don't need a lens you just select 127' in the settings of the camera and it will record like it.

Thanks for the info ... I hadn't seen anything done with the 127 lens till now ... didn't know they had this altrnative gizmo and don't remember seeing it on the Hero site ... I'll look again!
The other thing I was pondering - is it possible to use the waterproof casing with the LCD screen back on?

When you order any of the add on backs you get several new back doors so everything fits. They include a waterproof back as part of the kit.

Hero 2 with LCD back pack in a dive housing

See my video on the Blue Angel forum dive cruise thread.
It was filmed mostly @ 127' FOV
All the "xyz" accessory backpacks seem to come with a selection of new rear doors including the waterproof ones.

an alternative

the Go pro is an amazingly tough bit of kit and great for grabbing action shots

but I find the weird horizons and elegantly curved upriights a bit discombobulating

but Panasonic make waterproof cameras that do not have the weird lens effects and also do pretty good stills

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sanyo-Outdoor-Waterproof-Camera-recording/sim/B003S3RPQS/2

they fit comfortably in a pocket and seem to survive wet pockets really well

they also do a great job of the sound provided you place a glove or sock over the mike ports when nit is windy

my kids have taken it swimming and I have shoved it under water for inspecting the hull

cheaper too

I shot this on the Panasonic

sorry it is sailing

Simple GoPro question, hopefully.

How do you know what you are filming with no viewing screen?

Oh, and another one.

The charge seems to be via USB only. So you have to carry a computer with you?

Oops, another one.

Some of the shots seem very stable, particularly on the rib. What mounting? All I can see on Google is lots of mention of sticky pads. Surely not.

TIA

Panasonic bought Sanyo

panasonic bought Sanyo

so the same cameras with different names

and different prices

this one would be fine

http://www.amazon.co.uk/PANASONIC-W...-DIGITAL/dp/B00546890S/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_1

the sd cards and spare batteries are very cheap now

an 8gig sd card records about two hours

a battery under warm conditions will record for 90 mins or so

I must say that I have always found that I take the best pix on the camera I have with me

even when walking the dog or riding the horse or bike I take the camera with me

never know when you might come across something worth filming

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyqhDLSnmIc

the panasonic has a flip out view finder and you can get a 12 volt charger for the batteries
