I've taken advice to use HCL at 7% to clear a chalky sludge that's blocking my drain plug on a direct-cooled VP 2003. I respect the source who'se successfully used the same solution many times to good effect and without damage to the engine so I'm committed.
The issue is that, having removed the anode, approx 1.5 litres of water remains below the anode apperture and above the drain plug. 4 x litres of Rydlyme was cycled through the engine (off) last time using a bilge pump to apparently little effect. If the HCL is introduced through the thermostat housing and left to sit for 10 mins will it likely mix with the already present water or would running the HCL through the pump for 10 mins be a better approach ? Thoughts welcome but I am committed to using the HCL as I cannot breach the drain block from below.

Maybe stay with your original thread .. which has more info ?
