Slightly off topic, but can anyone explain the point of having cake and not eating it?

[/ QUOTE ]

The concepts are mutually exclusive. You can either have a cake and not eat it - or - eat your cake and then not have it any more.

Back on topic, i'd be in favour of more regulation IF it would actually solve any of these issues (which I am highly doubtful of, we have driving liscences but still plenty of idiots on the road) and if it wouldn't be the thin end of the wedge regarding taxing boats, which we all know it would be.

But the whole purpose of cake is for consumption. So what would be the benefit of having cake and not eating it? I've always thought this to be a strange expression.

I voted for less regulation. Then there won't be anyone to stop you have torpedos.

Oh! Having your cake and eating it infers that you have an imaginary cake and that perhaps your imaginary friend would like some as well.

But then that depends on what sort of cake it is, for instance, I dont like current cake. But a nice bit of carrot cake, yummy!

Our colregs already give you unlimited right to do anything. I believe torpedoes are a realistic action in some cases.

Next time they should change it to:

... she shall take such action as will best aid to avoid loss of life, injury or damage.

Not quite true...

if you don't eat it, it goes mouldy and has to be thrown away
if you do eat it - it stays with you for ever - hanging just around the ribs /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

so you can't have your cake and eat it, but you can eat it and still have it...

If it's imaginary...

So if there is no cake then I can neither have my cake, nor eat it.

How cruel is that? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Imagine having your cake and throwing it at a jet-skier!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can I humbly suggest that not all jet-skiers are that bad. There's plenty of water for all of us. Perhaps "Hug a Jet-skier" or, even, offer him a piece of your cake - unless, of course, you've eaten it, in which case you wouldn't have it!? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That's me - hiding behind that big rock over there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you were to put the cake into a condom (or Femdom if it's a big slice) and tie the end, then eat it, you would have it in about 12 hours or so.
