Have you ever been in a earthquake?

The Caribbean ring of fire has been more active than usual. On a boat you usually don't notice them but there mas a magnitude 7 one just to the North of Antigua earlier this year. I was at anchor in Falmouth harbor Antigua and the boat definitely lurched. At the same time there was a noise like a very large very noisy diesel that was close by. I rushed on to deck expecting to see some monster boat about to run me down but there was only my boaty neighbors also out on deck looking puzzled.

I am currently in Guadeloupe and although the caldera has several active fumaroles the authorities are not restricting access.

Numerous times living in LA, most I've not even noticed. The biggest or at least most noticing everyone was in the UK ironically,.

Had one a couple of years ago in Big Bear after a night of thunderstorms on our wedding anniversary. Only a 3.0 but very close and shallow - felt like someone had drove a truck into our cabin. The joke did the earth move for you got tired pretty quick.

I noticed one once in the UK - I was in a meeting, and a chair fell down in an adjacent store-room. Afterwards we rea lized that it had coincided with reports of an earthquake. My elder daughter was also once woken by one - the rest of us slept through it.
They do happen in the Uk, but are usually so weak that people don't notice.
 
Been in a few over the years, but most recently in the Himalaya a couple of years ago. Myself and my room mate were busy throwing a large* house spider out of the room, while said spider was determined to stay/return inside.

Being a little preoccupied (not quite screaming, but you get the idea) neither of us noticed the earthquake despite minor structural damage occurring nearby...

Is there a Darwin award for arachnids because this spider must've known what was happening, yet nonetheless decided to shelter inside a concrete house?

* We are talking India here, faster than a supercharged mouse and twice the size :-0 (Ok, maybe about the same weight.)
 
Yes, a 6.8 in Seattle in 2001.
I was on the 16th floor of an office tower block, on a call with a customer when it struck - hearing the noise from their end (about 20 miles away) at the same time confirmed what we were experiencing. We sheltered till it stopped, cleared out down the stairs and went home for the rest of the day! My flat looked like it had been burgled, pretty much everything that had been on a shelf had ended up on the floor.
