Have I've bought too small a Rocna for my type of anchoring?

I find that very odd given my own experiences of back to back testing with a Rocna and a CQR in soft mud off Falmouth and in Sharfleet (Thames). In both cases the CQR was retrieved hand over hand, effortlessly, from a long way out while the Rocna wouldn't move a mm until we were almost directly above it.

We also tested with different seabeds with similar results.

Perhaps our CQR was faulty or non genuine, or something. But even if so, neither of our Rocnas have ever dragged, ever, in any conditions on any bottom, with any scope.

We anchor a lot.

That corresponds with what I found: the borrowed 8kg CQR I used last year was really easy to haul in (and I dragged in the Crouch, though not in tougher conditions at Harty Ferry), whereas the Rocna clearly needed to be dislodged with more effort.

I lost faith pretty quickly in the 12kg CQR on my new, to me, 3500kg Cornish Yawl, when she dragged quite a few of times. I replaced it with a 6kg Rocna. Having used the Rocna many times in the last couple of weeks in Falmouth, Helford and St Mawes I agree that it stays where I put it, and won't budge until I'm right over it. At just 6kg it's very easy to handle too. The CQR is now relegated to a garden ornament.

We've been in Falmouth, Helford & St Mawes for the last few weeks (though we're in Plymouth Sound now for the fireworks - with everyone else it seems!) maybe we saw you.

Last couple of days up the Tamar to hide from Bertha - we went up to Cotehele on the rising tide each of two days for something to do and anchored in the stream off the quay. The flow was considerable and I was nervous dropping the hook. Definitely soft mud up there, and we picked up a good speed before the chain came tight. Both times we slammed to a halt with no apparent dragging. I'd put out about 20m. Depth was around 4m plus about 1.2m to our bow roller, so a good enough ratio, but still we weigh something like 16 tonnes all up. Amazing.

Here we are:
