When I bought my boat, the only place the name was shown was on the side, with the paper work showing either the original name or no name at all.
As the name is in script, I interpreted it as Wunja, however, I'm not sure that is right.

What do you think?

Well Wunja doesnt mean anything, versus Wunjo is the eighth rune of the Elder Futhark, and means Joy and Happiness coming into your life..... so that sort of makes sense , especially the bit about Futhark.

That was the reason that lead me to have doubts.

It is unquestionably "wunjo".

The typeface is an outline and shadowed version of a font known as Brush Script. You might well have it on your computer and you can see for yourself.

It's a pretty awful and not very legible treatment. Be aware though, if replacing, that the old name will remain as a shadow. We changed the name of our boat at only 18 months age and now, 5 years later, I can still see the original name in certain lights (you have to really look for it though).

WUNJO:

Wunjo “woon-yo” is the eighth and final rune of the first aett. Its phonetic sound is “W” as in warm. Its shape represents a metal wind vane used on Viking ships. It symbolizes joy, pleasure, fulfillment, and fellowship.
Magically it is used for fulfillment and joy in love and career.

hmm, just 'cos some of you are unfortunate enough NOT to have the blood of Viking (repeat VIKING) heroes running through your veins.

Don't get me started on the variations between the runic "alphabets"....

ITU have the following listed;

WUNJA PI7495 244615518 HOL
WUNJO DF2538 D
WUNJO LJ9210 257744880 NOR

If the boat had a ships radio licence then you could have got the answer from ITU, but you obviously do not have a radio fitted.

And if the boat wasn't registered then you couldn't look up its name in the registry.

So I suggest you toss a coin.
