hats

Having two ears helps a lot. You rarely see a pic of van Gogh with a hat without a strap to hold it on.

I hate the brims, you need to lean too far back to see the masthead and they obscure obstructions that come round and hit you on the forehead.

Depends why wearing the hat - avoiding frostbite in winter, keeping dry in rain, avoiding sunburn etc. Different hats for each purpose. (None a baseball cap, which is useless for everything boatie except spinnaker trimming, and skin consultant banned as lacked rim round back so useless for sun protection.)

I hate hats.

I think I may have worn one a couple of times in the ambulance service, and a couple of times when I was with fisheries protection for court. And my sister-in-law‘s wedding I attended in full dress uniform with ribbons. I wasn’t popular as I put the green to shame!

oh. and a wolly one when I was a fisherman if it was really cold.

The Slam sunhat in the photo and for rain a baseball cap. For cold a thermal (Thinsolate) beany. For cold and wet a baseball cap with a thermal beany, or wooly hat over it. The peak of the baseball cap helps to keep rain off my glasses. For really cold weather a Russian Army ushanka. I don't use the ushanka much!

Backwards baseball cap for the win. Otherwise they blow off when looking up checking sail trim. And as Wu Tang say "Protect ya neck" ?

They do have a habit of going missing still. Latest losses were two in Portugal, one Cascais, one in Lagos, and one in Dominica. There are other scattered about the Med too.

Like Mike I wear my Musto cap back to front, although that springy thing with the metal clip on it keeps poking me in the eye.
