Took the plunge at the Southampton Boat Show this year and decided to order a mattress for the boat, deciding to use Marine Bedding. Was given instructions on how to make the template which I duly followed and sent this off to Marine Bedding.

Mattress arrived 3 weeks later and on opening the large box it arrived in I was impressed with the quality of the mattress, but then noticed that something didn't seem right. It became apparent that the slope on the edge of the mattress against the hull was going the wrong way i.e. inwards instead of outwards. I contacted Peter Quinn at Marine Bedding explaining the problem, but said I'd try the mattress on the boat to see how bad it was. He said that if the error was theirs they would obviously put things right.

On trying the mattress in the boat the gap at the top of the mattress against the hull was the width of my hand so I took some photos of this and sent them off to Peter. When I then phoned him he said that they'd checked the template I sent and realised the confusion had come about due to one of the comments I'd made on the template. At this point I was fearing that they'd try to put the blame on me, but Peter said the last thing he wanted was an unhappy customer so they'd arrange for the mattress to be picked up and the problem sorted.

Mattress was duly collected and just over a week later the corrected version arrived looking much more like it should. Tried it on the boat today and its a perfect fit so am well chuffed!

Service has been good throughout and the quality of the mattress looks really good; feels very comfortable for the short time I've lain on it but not had an overnight sleep yet. Can't fault Peter for how they've dealt with this especially as there was a possibility of them being able to pass the buck but this never even became an option from their point of view, hence the 'hats off to Marine Bedding'.

I have to disagree with you on the quality of service from marine bedding. Dealing with Peter Quin was an unpleasant experience.
We purchased a mattress from marine bedding 2 years ago. As it had to fit thought the hatch it needed to be “split and zipped” This allows the 2 parts of the mattress to sit about 1“ apart. One side of the mattress failed at a faster rate than the other and so we ended up with a step between the two. Peter came to view the mattress and blamed a hatch cover that is under the bed for flexing and “breaking the mattress”. The mattress had got wet as it is under a hatch that was left open so this was also blamed. He also said outright that he had never had a mattress fail. I know this is incorrect as I had spoken to someone who had 2 marine bedding mattresses fail!
After many phone calls he agreed to replace the mattress. The new one lasted about 5 months before it failed in the same way. As we had then left England by then I felt it was not worth the effort of fighting a court case from afar so have just replaced the mattress.
I hope you have a better experience with the longevity of you purchase
