That is a valid point, but both the deck hatches (same size - 556mm square) open from aft to forward, but all the other Bavarias in the marina have the hatches the other way round. The yacht was coded by previous owner and perhaps the orientation was a requirement for coding?Since the frame doesn’t leak why replace it. I just fitted the new hatch to the old frame, only takes 10 minutes.
I am fairly certain that the broken acylic and bent frame are due to the hatch being pushed forward and impacting on the coachroof forward end. That would not happen if the hatch opened the other way. (And the tensioning device was properly adjusted?)
Changing the frame does not look too difficult. No drilling, same screw holes; only prising the old frame from the deck may be an issue. Depends what sealant was used previously.
