Thinking of all things to do with sovereignty and how out French friends used to be a tad bureaucratic and the Belgians have allegedly prosecuted people for red fuel, , has anyone been to Europe since the vote and if so how has the result affected the reception?

As I recall, pre-EU, we used to post the first copy of the Customs form leaving the port, fly the yellow pennant on arrival in France and leave it up for 24 hours - occasionally a gendarme would visit - then go to the proper duty free, record that on parts II and III of the Customs form. On arrival back, fly the pennant again and ring (and wait) to report and wait to see if the Customs would visit. I seem to recall getting copies of the Customs form was a pain.

T'is a sad day today, SWMBO being an EU citizen after 48 years of SWMBO, will probably have to go home in two years time. Can anyone give me advice on how to make breakfast?

We were in Norway for the vote and then travelled through Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. In each country lots of people discussed it with us. With two exceptions they were very sad and once they had understood which way our sympathies lay, commiserated with us. It was a great talking point! Even the Norwegians thought that Brexit was mad - except one. They said that the two Norwegian votes (to stay out of the EU) were split like the UK - main cities in, rural backwaters out. Everyone we spoke to was very well informed, and, of course, discussing a complex issue in their second language - humbling!

To answer the original question - no problem yet. We are off again in a few weeks and anticipate no problems this and next year.

I see on the reader to reader section a forumite has been using Patio Magic for his lazy jacks. Perhaps you could stick them in with those to remove any winter "growth". Should last half a season at least.
