Has anyone got the key for this cold north wind?

It is horrible out there, had a lovely river sail on sunday then fled back to OYC on Monday morning after my freshly cleaned and 'serviced' genoa lost most of its sacrificial strip, it appears the thread was more sacrificial than the strip. GRRRRRRRR. Did you have a good time over there Roger? I saw Jolie Brise in fox's on Monday am adorned with flags, I didn't know that was your boat, I have often admired it as I pull and pull the outboard starter rope........

This was Thursday going over after motoring for 9 hrs

came back in fog the first 30 mls on Saturday ( came back early as i had workers for crew who had to have nose to the grindstone Tuesday, & just as well as it turned out :disgust: ). we did sail all the way back in 11.35 to Landguard.
Chilly trip home & crew phoned FMYC & ordered 3 x big steaks for when we arrived.
This is the 4th time we have come back early due to forecasts & each time it was the right decision.
1 boat is still in the Montgomery Dock & another in Ramsgit

Probably the right decision eh, I like your relaxed cockpit approach, when we went just 2 weeks ago, I was wearing everything I could, including my fathers winter gloves at one point and clipped in. Hope the weather didn't ruin the event, am def. going to go again next time-think its every 2 years from now on. Anyway , yes , lets prayer for better weather....

All I can say is used twice as much fuel than normal to get back from Calais. Setting off Sunday at 15:00. All was fine till 6 mile off the Nase Tower then then engine packed up, so 7 hour sail from there up to the fuel berth at Woolverstone with F7 down the river . Then a controlled crash onto the fuel berth, the Chaps in Royal Harwich must have though me mad. O what fun we have the engine got an air lock in it 5 min later it was fixed and back on my berth.

Glad you got back... in the end. Everyone that I've heard from who left that afternoon had some sort of drama on the way home.

We are the far side of Denmark, having left the Crouch just over a month ago. The winds have been pretty consistently northeast ever since we left - the way we want to go, of course. But it has generally been very warm and sunny. This evening, for example, we have a blue sky, a temperature of 20C at 9pm, but to get here we spent the 9 hours tacking into a north east wind.

20C at 9pm? Ye gods, here on the N Kent coast it hasn't got above 12.5 all day, been raining on and off most of the day too. At least the wind has dropped a bit, but only a bit.

I've seen 20 degrees today at Fambridge ... down below after the 2kw heater had been on for well over an hour :disgust:

Flaming first of June? Feels more like ruddy March!

Kurrawong Kid is on his way up the East Coast to Shetland, having said that he isnt far from home once above the Humber
Plan is Caledonian Canal, not Shetland! Have been holed up in Hartlepool since Saturday-even the locals are moaning about the cold. Since 2+ mtr. waves are forecast until Monday we have decided to have a break back home with me, collecting the car on the way from Foxs whilst SWMBO has gone directly home. Currently crawling through Lincoln on train diverted on account of winds bringing the overhead lines down.
