My Harken 44.2 electric winch went at the end of this past season and just reporting the repair here in case anyone searches the forum for information. When I took it apart it was in pretty bad state with the two top bearings rusted away causing the gears to be damaged:

This required a new gearbox. I got this from Rundles of Bolingbrooke (£190 + vat) and they also took the shaft off the old gearbox and tapped the new gearbox for 8mm bolts. Quite expensive old business (£75 + vat), given that the cause of it was a simple seal which should have been replaced - item 3 in the diagram:

However, it's awkward to get at so I'm not surprised it wasn't replaced.

This is a 50mm Vee ring A type seal. The gearbox is a Bonfiglioli MVF49 / P 24:1 P71 B14. APT Powerdrive also do this - same price as Rundles. In fact they supplied the gearbox to Rundles.

There are two winch systems - blue and white. This is blue and white may differ.

Harken appear not to support this winch anymore.

I also got an electric motor shop to look at the 12v motor brushes. They said they looked like new, so I presume that the motor usage is not heavy.

Good thing you found a way to get the beast repaired. :encouragement:
I am SO glad I have only manual winches on board (All Harken) . Mind you there are 6 to deal with over the winter.

I would like to PM you, but as a new member I can’t! I have a 44.2 electric Harken, and the motor is without power. Could you sent me the partslist?
