Hardy Marine: how to be cr4p at the boat show

I think that you were unlucky Jimmy.

We too wanted to look at this boat and viewed her accompanied by Trevor James, the Windboats chairman. Friendly enough chap.

He was very helpful and interesting as he explained some of the challenges they had faced getting this boat ready for LIBS.

Also, just for the record, my wife had her handbag with her throughout.

Anyway, interesting boat.

Cheers

Garold.

Pretty appalling Jimmy but not unusual to have this sort of tale from most shows unfortunately (I could bore for England on the subject of poor boat sales people).

I am happy to say that we had an entirely different experience on the Hardy 62 when Trevor spent a long time chatting about motor boating, sailing and their plans for Hardy as we took a leisurely tour of the boat. Looking forward to having a look at the new boat so hopefully we won't encounter the lady who brought your viewing to a premature end :)

Hmm. Sounds like they've just got the wrong person on that boat then. Shame we didn't stumble into Trevor instead of the bag lady...

Yup we had much the same on the 62 at Sibs. Beautiful boat, unfortunately cancelled by a Russian buyer, perhaps that's why it looked a tad like a gunboat.

Apparently the look was quite deliberate as the guy who ordered it wanted it to look like something 'official' to deter villains/pirates....!

Ok, you have done the research, what ais did you buy as I was interested in the Raymarine unit, but its pricey

I bought the from cactus marine. They had the kit with ait2000 & gv30 vhf/gps antenna for £499. I looked at other solutions, but this all connects easily and is an all in one kit.

First London show for me but does seem with the boat makers that looks are everything. The right outfit and labels and grooming seem to go a long way.

Contrary to this in my admittedly limited experience, the really warm buyers with the dosh to commit don't necessarily look like the sort of people you would expect them to. Usually very down to earth type of people who want to talk details rather than worry about the bling.

I'd be interested to hear her defence. Would be extremely poor form if she thought JTB's SWMBO was going to pinch stuff off the boat as per my earlier post.

Perhaps it was because he was in his overalls, wellies & hard hat? :encouragement:

Sure she had a handbag rather than a wheelbarrow? Dropping a hod of bricks on a cherrywood deck can ,make an awful mess & mixing mortar on teak is a definite no-no.

What's so odd about not wanting handbags? Quite common in museums and historic houses were they don't want things scratched. These are new boats to be sold later. Respect other people's property and leave your shoes and bags outside or go one at a time. Not something to complain about IMO.

Quite a ridiculous comment. It's a boat show. You let people on your boats to try and sell them regardless of the minor damage that might ensue. It's all part and par of the course. In this case handled badly. She should have offered at least to to store the bag or look after it and/or read the situation better. Her attitude sounds ignorant and rude and should not be tolerated. I wouldn't let my wife leave her Hermes bag on the bathing platform. And anyway I need her bag to carry my keys, phone, Ipad, credit cards...

Her defence will probably be that she spotted that the handbag was a lot more expensive than the one that had been bought for her, and decided that there was no way that it was coming aboard.

The blue tape treatment is a regular last task before handover to the new owner. If you think handbags at boat shows are dangerous, then how much more dangerous are all the tools and toolboxes used in the final fit out. But even though a skilled French polisher can bring many defects back to perfect, some dents and scratches are just too deep to completely repair.

A couple of Septembers back at SIBS, SS had that £13mil ship with the opening on the port side, I was asked if I would like to come aboard by one of the sales staff, I said I only wanted to see the tender that they shoehorned in to the garage, (it was one of their first runabouts, a 17'er that Mr Robert Braithwaite helmed in a 007 film) he was more than helpful, I did ask, why do you let the great unwashed on board? his reply was that the policy was to get as much exposure as possible, and with lotto, they don't know who is a buyer or looker so everyones welcome.
