a couple of weeks ago I called into Portrush Harbour for diesel. " Hello Sir "said I to the the HM, trying to be mega respectfull and grovelling " any chance of some fuel ?". "O I suppose so" came the reply. "Only if it's not too much trouble" I answered. "I'm awake now anyway so I may as well get it for you". (I thought he was joking but he was serious at 3.00 pm) I got the diesel and gave the usual tip.

Iast week I did not see the funny side when I left Rathlin after phoning the same HM to announce my visit for fuel in an hours time. I arrived at Portrush in 57 minutes to find a locked office and no answer on the phone I waited 20 minutes and no one showed up. Having no choice I traveled to Coleraine 8 Miles from Portrush where I put 95 gallons in my 100 gallon tank. another few miles would have meant a tow home.

cos I was hoping that next time I called saying I would be there in an hour he might have thought it worth his while to be there. So much for his tip in the future.
Coleraine is a different story- A marina run by people who enjoy boating who will be there when They say they will be.
