I moved my boat from Southsea (Langstone Harbour) last year where the harbour dues were about £60 per year to Littlehampton where they were £200 per year

The harbour master suggested that there are less boats in the area so we have to pay more....

I somehow can't see the logic...if there was only one care in the whole country would he/she have to pay the road tax for every car in the land....just doesn't seem fair to me...I paid under protest but can only guess nothing will be done by the port authority....

What are the dues in other areas...

Something seems wrong there.......

PHC harbour dues for my Jaguar 25 were billed at £64:65p this year, and yet you have a bigger boat! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Mind you, what really pees me off is the Crown Estate charge which was an additional £76:49p, and for which I get nothing in return. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Did you think 'Rip-off Britain' was just a catchy phrase?

Guapa (getting ready to exit stage right in the very near future)

There's a saying in French: 'Si tous les degoutes s'en vont, il n'y as que les degoutants qui restent' (spelling? - French getting rusty)
If all the disgusted leave, only the disgusting are left behind.

There is going to be a bit of a £ difference between those harbours that have 0000's of users and those only in the hundreds ... there is still the same fixed overheads ie - Harbour Master ... and he's going to want an office of sorts ... and probably a boat ...
Then there is the maintenance of the harbour facilities - this will obviously depend on what sort of facilities are made available .. but it does seem like it is more sensible to moor your boat where there are more of us ...

Why move to litlehampton anyway?

They have converted our harbour to a Marina and the dues are a wee bit higher than yours nearly £900 for a dayboat up to 20 foot.
Start to worry when they start bringing the pontoons in.

I can't even imagine what you get for the Harbour Dues at Littlehampton .... could not believe it when Hbr Dues were £8 for 1 night ON TOP of £10 mooring fee. Not somewhere I'll be frequenting ... pity 'cause otherwise quite a nice place.

I get nothing for my £200 except a threat to be taken to court for 3 times the yearly fee if I don't pay....and the Harbour Master posted my sticker 2nd class...daylight robbery

I guess I'll move on soon...Its a 40ft boat and I expect to pay more...but not three times as much as anywhere else....

I wouldn't have any problem paying as you go...or paying a fare fee...but I guess we are just easy revenue
