A couple of weeks ago I did a self-test on my McMurdo 210 PLB and it failed. This was on a product less than two years old, when the battery is supposed to last for five years.

So why am I a happy customer? Because I e-mailed McMurdo and got a very prompt reply saying "Send it to us and we'll either repair or replace it." I duly sent it off and I've just received it back in working order, complete with a comprehensive statement of what they found wrong and a full post-repair test report.

There is the benefit of buying a British product. You wouldn't get that service with some Chinese junk.

So was it just a flat battery?
At what frequency do you do these 'self-tests'? Is it as a result of numerous self tests the battery was flat?
What did the report say?
