Happy Christmas from all of us at Sant Carles

Eyes/carabinas sounds good

Yes it's perfectly fine to have multiple t/ts. Superyachts do it all the time. I have both my RIB and Laser as T/T. But I see your point for the journey down

Hmmm... let me think about that...

8 days if you're lucky, 200 miles a day (=hardcore) of grey seasicky sea. Hardcore fuel stop planning. £10k of fuel. One day of engine servicing and £2k for that.
Not to mention potential breakdowns and the depreciation cost of putting an extra 100hrs on the boat. IMHO stick it on a truck and use what limited boating time you have loafing around the Med rather than scaring yourself in Biscay

I think that the passage making appeals to us, otherwise from a time/cost pov of course it makes sense to 'ship'. On the other hand, should we decide to trade up before we relocate then in that situation we would look at a more southerly delivery address than Falmouth...that could save us a couple of quid.

Can't believe how many fair weather lightweights there are around ;) Having said that, I might change my mind following our trip on Sunday, Brittany Ferry from Pompy to Santander...It's looking a little sporty out there at the moment!

Yeah, I'd like to see you say that when you're in the middle of Biscay 200nm from land and you're down to 7kts in a F8;)

Come on Mike!!
If he posts on here, he is unlikely to get himself into a situation like that.
The great thing with mobos is that you can often get to your destination in the same weather window as the one that you left.
And one of the big experiences whilst traveling down to the Med is the huge wave frequencies making the Portuguese section an experience in itself.
It isn't a matter of being a fair weather sailor or not - actually, I suffer with the old seasickness thing myself.
It is a matter of planning - we ALL know that.

I was joking re the fair weather thing :) I don't think that I have the cahoonas for a 7 day trip; we would love to take our time and enjoy a day on / day off with 25 to 125 mile hops; although we might well hoof it down to Arcachon as we are pretty well versed with Southern Brittany and Charente-Maritime. I just think that taking the boat through the Straits and into the Med would be pretty much be a cert for the death bed memory bank.

Very much looking forward to wandering around Sant Carles next week and getting a taste for things to come...

Whoops missed this thread and it's already on page-3....!

Happy Christmas and a Properous New Year to all, on YBW.

Lots of us going out to SCM over Xmas, we're leave on boxing day with some family for a couple weeks - cant wait. Love it out there this time of year.

As far as the SCMCHAT Forum is concerned, it's an excellent facility and much appreciated by berth holders. The New Map feature Mike developed works really well, you can find it within the Shortcut Menu box on the Home page.

We brought our F43 round from Gib-SCM (500nm) in Feb/Mar 2011, it took us 3 days and was great fun, Mike and Mary assisted us on that occasion which was much appreciated! A bit more expensive but isn't that what we have a boat for! Not just to drop the hook in the lagoon and sip G&T's!

Can't wait to see your new toy Mike.....! May even take my weight.....

This year, we are staying at home for Xmas and New Year so don't forget to have that swim on New Years Day again, John!!!
The Vikings will be there so they may be "up for it"

Sorry, guys, most people have nicknames in SC - The Vikings because their boat is called Viking.

Blast it was cold in the water that day, thank goodness Mary brought the mulled wine in a flask....! The bemused expressions on locals faces as they passed was a treat to behold!

I'm still down with a cough and flu donated by Lorraine, she's only just recovered, she will kill me if I take the plunge next year..... But who knows ;-)

OK, so I have now been in the Bay of Biscay in a force 9, albeit on the Cap Finistere Brittany Ferry...Got about 120nm SW of Ushant when the skipper decided it was too rough and turned back for Brest. What a lightweight, must have been French :)

Needlest to say, the turn through the huge atlantic swell and mess was spectacular...there was much screaming and we saw four cars on deck five that had bounced in to one another. A passenger sustained an injury and had to be transferred off, it took five passes from the helicopter before they got it right.

Brest turned us away for some health and safety reasons so the boat spent the entire night traversing between Morgat and Douarnenez in relative (30kt SW) shelter.

Boat got in to Brest at 10am and we hoofed it down to Barcelona through France arriving about 6 hours later that we would have done if things had gone to plan...but it was all worth while and wife is now in agreement regarding moving the boat in the next couple of seasons...

Had a great day out in Sant Carles and very much enjoyed the coastal drive back to Barca....All in all a great Christmas and memorable for all sorts of reasons!

Glad you got back safely, must have been quite an experience; once you get one of those rolling it can be frightening!

We went out yesterday and rafted with some friends and had a great day in the lagoon, flatter than a flat thing.

See you in SCM soon......

I hope you haven't broken the Cap Finistere - we are booked onto her on Feb 2nd.
Usually, it is the Pont Aven that does that run but she is having a refit this winter - I think she can handle the rougher stuff

Glad you liked SC
It is probably too early for you but I know of a good 15m berth for rent going cheap - close to JW so on the posh side of the marina :D:D:D:D

Yes, too early but we will be looking in earnest within 24 months. The per metre charges seem to be a little less than Falmouth and the vibe in the marina was lovely, had tapas in our shirt sleeves on the 27th, Sant Carles has a great back drop and very relaxed feel to it...
We plan to do the Channel Islands and France to death over the next two seasons and the make the jump down.

Have a great NYE!
