Hanging Lockers

I'm pretty impressed with Danboline, ok its expensive but it doesn't seem very fussy about what it sticks to. I found it hard to prep some lockers due to rough GRP, inaccessible areas but the finish is really good.

Same here, it also dries with impressive speed, even in freezing conditions. I'm an old school cheapskate but tend to stick with Dabolene.

Having removed original coverings I particularly disliked (and were in bad condition) much of my hanging locker was bare GRP inside. I scraped it over with polyester filler, sanded and flowcoated. It was my first attempt at this so was OK, not perfect - by the time I finished the equivalent treatment on the heads I was pretty ok at it. The wood parts I gave lots of lacquer to.

A very timely post. I have painted lockers previously with white masonry paint. Its seemed ok but they were fairly out of the way so not top of my beautification projects.

My hanging locker is a smelly cave of unusableness, and has been since I bought the boat. Time to sort it!

Damboline is new to me but I am tempted. Painting with alternatives is such as masonry paint probably need a primer to look decent, don't they? 1L of masonry paint comes in around £25 i guess, plus £15 for the primer. Then I have the hassle of painting, drying, painting (not thst big a deal tho).

Damboline looks like around £25 for 750 ml. No primer required. I think I've just talked myself into giving it a go.

I would not paint the hull area on the inside of a hanging locker, it will condensate and make everything horribly damp. Some foam backed vinyl look tidy and helps stop condensation.
Lining it is indeed much better than painting. We use a felt underlay like material dabbed on with adhesive. Reduces condensation, if on hull wall it keep it cooler in summer and for the other 9 month keeps it warmer

Good point, it has a vent though. I was thunking about anti mildew bathroom paint, but lining it makes sense.
I hate foam backed vinyl though.
I think I’ll paint it for now, as there are too many other jobs to finish in too short a time, and put lining it onto the future jobs list :)
Is cork still available, anyone know? That would probably do a good job.

Masonry paint sticks very well to GRP without primer. Just make sure surface is clean and dry, etc.
