Handrail gate bits?

I cut out a section of the pushpit to make it easier to climb on board from the stern. Now I want to put either a wire across or a piece of tubing to close it up when afloat. I can't see anything fittings which are really appropriate - just the usual end caps with 6mm hole. Any idea of what might work? If nothing is available I can open out the 6mm holes and sort something out.

I have modified push pits and added tube to guardrails using canopy fittings from Sheridan Marine. There might be something from the range shown in the link that could be used with a bit of imagination:-

I've got pelican hooks etc. It is more to do with the ends of the cut tubing I am trying to sort out.

Sheridan have "Stainless steel inline tube connector for joining two tubes together providing a telescopic function to rails with a thumb screw locking and release stud." But I can't see how that would work:

Fork end and I have a tube hinge for the other end. Keep a pin tied on the rail.

Yep. That looks good.

Just pointing out the obvious. Don't just attached the fittings with grub screws. Either through bolt or thread cap screws through into the railing.

A bit of weld should work, too.

This ia a pic of my stern gate made from the gap in my stern rail that swings open but can cw locked closed when offshore

How does the gate lock? With the vane gear I'd imagine there's a lot of force there.

I have 2 pins that slide down the ingles on each side and remove the one pin to allow the gate to swing out of the way entry and exit which also moves the self steering gear out of the way

The self steering gear can also be removed when not needed

You missed out the top section in your pic. Reminds me of my mother's photography ... heads missing.

I filled the gap on my Mirage 28 with a short chain, D shackle and pelican hook. The attachment points were already in place.

Photo was from my archive - not taken for this thread. The top section has nothing special at all .. no fastening / bolt / clip ... the 'ladder' pulls up and and then is tied off with the lanyard ... more than enough to stop anyone falling through.

Just extracted 'snapshot' from a video showing under sail and ladder closed up ... no chains ... no wires ... no clips or bolts ...
