hand held vhf

we recently bought a rib, complete with hand held vhf, can anyone tell me how long/how frequently, to charge the battery on the radio?a sowester srv-12001.
i don,t want to overcharge it.. thanx shiela

You probably can't overcharge it, but it's not normally a good idea to leave it on charge for long periods. What does the manual say? If you have it switched on for, say, an 8-hour day, overnight charging should bring it back up to 100%. However, some types of batteries have to be run down completely before recharching for best results and longer life. Ask the manufacturer if the manual is missing.

Switch on until it 'dies' -then recharge

Keep doing this and you will see how long you can expect from the battery and also you will improve its ability if NiCd.


if the battery pack says ; NiMh or LiIon then charge as you wish ... this is not apack to develop charge memory.

If the battery pack says : NiCd ...... then use the above switch on till die, then charge method to keep battery healthy, otherwise it will develop memory and lose efficiency.
